Salinas Salt Lagoon Full Day Trip from Arequipa

Laguna de Salinas - 07:00 Pick-up from your hotel in Arequipa for a scenic 3-hour drive to the Salinas Lagoon. Travel on a paved road towards Baños de Jesús and Chiguata (3000M), then ascend via dirt roads along the slopes of Pichu Pichu. Visit Salinas Luicho, where you may encounter native wildlife such as South American camelids, llamas, alpacas, and various bird species. If the lagoon has sufficient water, you may enter Salinas Salt. Enjoy views of Ñuñu (a small volcano) and the Ubinas volcano. An optional hike (maximum 3 km) is available. Chivay - After 3 hours of travel and 4 hours in total with stops, arrive at the town of Chivay, the capital of the valley. Lunch is at your own expense. Proceed to the hotel for check-in. In the afternoon, take a short hike to see Inca terraces and the local atmosphere, with an option to visit hot springs at 35°C.

Uyo Uyo Archaeological Site - Start at 15:00 to hike to the Uyo Uyo Archaeological Site for Incan ruins and stunning natural views. Climb the relatively easy trail and experience panoramic views of Colca. Entrance fee: USD 1.5 per person.

Colca Canyon Viewpoint - Condors - Puno

Colca Canyon - 06:45 After breakfast, head to the Colca Canyon viewpoint, including the Condors Cross for a spectacular view of the Condors’ flight and the canyon’s depth. Spend over an hour there. On the return, make brief stops in traditional villages like Maca, Yanque, and viewpoints like Choquetico and Antahuillque. Conclude the trip in this serene and picturesque valley before continuing to Puno city, the final destination for the day. Uros Floating Islands - 06:30 Early morning pick-up from your hotel in Puno by a local guide, then transfer to the harbor. Begin the boat excursion of Lake Titicaca by visiting “The Uros Floating Islands,” a small community that has lived on these reed islands for decades. Centuries ago, the indigenous Uros tribe created the islands to isolate and protect themselves from rival tribes, the Collas and the Incas. Supporting the local people by purchasing their artisan products is encouraged.

Taquile Island - “Taquile Island” is a traditional Quechua-speaking community with ancient agricultural terraces. The Taquile population was relatively isolated from the mainland until the 1950s, and the sense of community and family remains strong. The weaving tradition on Taquile Island dates back to early civilizations, preserving elements from pre-Inca Andean cultures. All weaving is done on pre-Inca fixed and pedal looms. The most characteristic garments are the “Chullo.” Upon reaching Taquile Island’s shores, walk up a narrow path, enjoying impressive views of Lake Titicaca and charming houses inhabited by direct descendants of the Inca Culture. At the top of the island, enjoy free time to explore independently, followed by lunch. Descend to the harbor to take the boat back. Arrive in Puno at 5 pm, then transfer to your hotel.

It is highly recommended to do the three Rainbows hike and discover these postcard-like mountains and their unique landscape. The Rainbow Mountains in Peru will immediately astonish you with their variety of colors due to the minerals in the soil. This is not the typical trekking tour to the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain, where you will be among hundreds of other tourists vying for the best photo without people in it. This is an alternative Rainbow Mountain tour where you will see not just “one” Rainbow Mountain but three, and the hike is only 1 hour (1.5 km/0.9 miles each way) instead of 3 hours.
