Valle de Tierra Mayor, RN3-Valle Olum
Province of Tierra del Fuego - Embark on a hike through the Fuegian Andes and forest, encountering rivers, streams, beaver dams, waterfalls, turquoise lakes, and stunning mountains offering breathtaking panoramic views. This two-day trek is of medium difficulty and includes some technical sections. While part of the journey follows a trail, much of it ventures off the beaten path, providing a true sense of adventure at the world’s end.
Ushuaia - Encounter two waterfalls before reaching the green and turquoise Laguna Submarino. These falls are nestled within the lush Nothofagus tree forest. In December, enjoy the sight of orchids in white and yellow, yellow violets, and the striking red rainfall flower. The forest is also ideal for bird watching, featuring the magnificent giant woodpecker, and in summer, it is teeming with finches and siskins. Beyond the forest, the high mountain flowers, especially the chocolate flower with its sweet fragrance, will amaze you. The mountain bursts with color above the treeline, and eagles, caracaras, and condors are frequently spotted.
Ushuaia - As you leave the lake behind, begin ascending the slope to the col, where the Andes range, including Sierra Alvear with its snowy peaks, comes into view. Cross into the next valley, passing by Holanda Lake until reaching the base camp.
Ushuaia - After a brief rest, continue to Gotama Ridge, where you can admire the beautiful Laguna Turquesa and ascend Carbajal Peak. From this 1000m summit, enjoy one of the best views of Carbajal Valley, with its sharp summits, rivers, forests, and red peatlands.
Olum Valley, 5 Hermanos Lake, Velo de la Novia Fall, RN3
Province of Tierra del Fuego - Following a steep hike, find yourself surrounded by two renowned peaks of Ushuaia, Olivia Mountain and 5 Hermanos Mountain. Traverse a rocky path to the stunning Laguna 5 Hermanos, where the panorama differs greatly from the previous day. The rock colors change, offering views of Olivia Mountain’s hanging glaciers. Once again, experience hiking off the beaten path!
Ushuaia - Follow a stream into the forest and pass by the impressive and noisy Velo de la Novia Falls before reaching National Road 3, located very close to Ushuaia.
