Unique experience - We loved the island! Service was great. Flamingos were a unique experience. We drove in ourselves (vs taking the bus) and didnt’ experience any lines. Also we avoided the 3 cruise ship day - that may have helped. The seating options aren’t super clear on their website. Here’s an easy summary: Premium seating = sandy beach + palapa + flamingos Beach cabana = sandy beach + cabana + flamingos Private cabana = rocky beach (snorkel area) + cabana + flamingos VIP palapa = sandy beach with a fence next to water park + palapa + flamingos (this area faces the mainland/industrial area; didn’t get a close look Regular seating = sandy beach + beach chairs (flamingos in zoo like enclosure elsewhere on island) We liked the food; the main restaurant food is Aruban traditional. You have to request their hot sauce - do so if you like spicy. The staff were great everywhere we went. The snorkeling has a good amount of fish everywhere and not very far down. Sadly the coral is somewhat damaged everywhere - not super surprising given how highly trafficked this area is. Overall we had a a great day and would recommend to others.

Fun Experience! - Kids had a blast! Definitely recommend upgrading to VIP, you get up close and personal with the flamingos. Chairs are very comfortable and a nice breeze comes through all day! Not sure as an adult I would go, but with little kids, it’s fun to change things up for a day!

Not a great fit for a family with very young kids. - As noted by this company, many features of this island are not included in the package. I think I should have considered this more deeply before doing this experience. I would not recommend waiting until you get to the island to add on things like your own cabana, premium seating (by the flamingos), coconut drinks, etc because you'll be competing with cruises! Also note that many of the premium features are not available to very young kids. If you don't get premium seating of any kind then you need to bring your own towels (you cannot rent them.) The package does include access to a little kids water park and the mega slides-- unfortunately our kids (4 & 6) were too young for the big slides. We briefly tried snorkeling with the kids for the first time and it was windy (it's often windy) so too rough for the kids who immediately freaked out. All of this is to say, if you have very young kids, you are paying a premium price to hang out on a beach (which you could do even better at baby beach) and a little water park. I did think the included buffet was good and we did get to look over the fence at the flamingos and turtles. We ended up leaving early and the island staff arranged for a taxi to take us home since this Viator package includes a drop off at 10 and a pickup at the end of the day.

Best for Families - DePalm Island was nice. I think it would have been better for me if I had young children. I did experience a nice massage near the water and a quick nap under the trees. Other than that, the experience was average at best. I appreciated having transportation from the hotel but we ended up leaving before the day trip was over.

So so..the number of cruise ships in port makes a difference - We visited this island as part of a snuba tour which we have reviewed separately because it was a disaster. There was No orientation when we landed at the entrance. No one to tell you where to go or what was available. It was every man for himself. Our cruise ship, Celebrity Beyond was the only cruise ship that Sunday, which was a good thing. There were multiple areas of lawn chairs basically stacked side by side with no real way to scoot between unless you were on the end. We found two seats on an end thankfully. If you decide to do this island buy the premium seating, which is a separate area closed off to have a space. Our bus driver on the return trip said that Monday and Tuesday three cruise ships were scheduled to be in Aruba. I can’t imagine adding all of those people into that space. There is an area to get snorkel gear. A place to order hamburger and fries which was nice and not too busy when we went. Add two more cruise ships and I am sure the line for food would be long. The beverages,,beer and wine were not great..took a sip and dumped them. The buffet lunch of chicken thigh and salad bar was perfectly ok. But imagine two more cruise ships of people..oh gosh just a nightmare. If you hit this right with premium seating and only one cruise ship in port and you like this kind of thing it was ok.

An average experience, at best - The tour, as described on Trip Advisor, was very misleading. The big problem that we had was that towels were NOT included. You had to bring your own towels. Towels were NOT listed under the exclusions. They also weren’t listed under the inclusions but, it was inferred that they were included. The island is smaller than it looks. The beach area had limited space and it was very crowded – unless you paid for an upgrade to a more private area. The food nearest to the beach was basic burgers, chicken fingers and fries. The line moved very slowly because they only had 1 person serving. Pro tip: there’s a buffet on the other side of the island that has much more variety and better food. It’s a short walk to this restaurant and it was empty when I walked in. Another pro tip: the ferries that go back and forth between the mainland and DePalm island are open for anyone to take. I thought you had to go back at the specific time shown on a sign at the arrival office. Overall, I would not recommend this tour. If you’re staying at one of the nicer resorts, you’ll have a lot of the same activities but, without the crowds.
