Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - Begin the day with an early breakfast before setting off to the world-renowned Serengeti National Park. Although the drive is lengthy, it offers breathtaking views. For first-time visitors, this experience is truly unforgettable. As you journey deeper into the Serengeti, you’ll understand why its name translates to “endless plains” in the local language. Covering 6,900 square miles (18,000 square kilometers), the plains extend to the horizon, challenging your senses and perception of distance.
This park is home to the Great Migration, featuring 2 million wildebeests, hundreds of thousands of zebras, and various antelopes. It’s also a prime location for spotting Big Cats and large predators, including lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas. Many iconic television scenes, such as the famous river crossings, have been filmed here. After the game drive, head to Seronera Camp to unwind, enjoy dinner, and stay overnight.
Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - Spend a full day exploring the Serengeti National Park. The itinerary is flexible and can be tailored to your preferences. Each day, your guide will discuss the best schedule for you, including game drives and wake-up times. For instance, you might opt for a morning game drive, return to camp for lunch and relaxation, followed by an afternoon game drive, or choose a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch.
Note: An early morning Balloon safari is available for an additional fee.
Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater - We recommend an early start to enjoy a morning game drive when the animals are most active and witness one of the most stunning sunrises. After the game drive, return to camp for a delightful brunch before heading to Ngorongoro, the 8th wonder of the Natural World. The crater spans 102 square miles and features 2,000-foot-high walls, creating a natural sanctuary for nearly every species native to East Africa. It’s one of the few places on the continent where you can see the black rhino.
The crater includes a river, swamps, a soda lake with a large flamingo population, a forest, and open plains. It’s also renowned for its elephants, which are the largest in the world with impressive tusks. Ngorongoro Crater is truly a Wonder of the Natural World.
Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater - Start the day early and descend into the crater floor for an extraordinary morning of wildlife viewing in one of the planet’s most breathtaking locations. With a dense animal population of around 25,000, the crater offers the best game viewing in all of Tanzania’s parks. Within minutes, you can spot wildebeest, eland, lions, zebras, gazelles, elephants, blue monkeys, and some of the over 500 bird species in the area. With some luck, you might even see the endangered black rhino.
After the game drive, enjoy a picnic lunch near the picturesque hippo lake. Following lunch, descend the crater and travel to Empakaai, about an hour’s drive from Simba Campsite. Walk up to Olmoti Crater to view the Munge River waterfalls and the crater. The Munge River originates in the crater and flows into the Ngorongoro Crater, and is a 45-60 minute walk from the camp. Dinner and overnight at Nainokanoka Campsite.
Empakaai Crater
Empakaai Crater - After breakfast, load your luggage onto donkeys, affectionately known as “Maasai Land Rovers.” The trek from Nainokanoka Special Campsite to Empakai Crater takes 5 to 6 hours. Accompanied by a Maasai guide, embark on a journey through the stunning Maasai landscape and indigenous villages.
During the walk, the guide will share insights about Maasai culture and Tanzania in general. Pass through the Elbulbul depression, where Maasai livestock graze alongside zebras and wildebeests. This area is rich in birdlife. Proceed to Empakai Special Campsite for dinner and an overnight stay.
Empakaai Crater
Empakaai Crater
Empakaai Crater - Early in the morning, after breakfast, visit the local Maasais at Naiyobi Village, a small Maasai village located a few kilometers north of Empakaai Village. Discover the traditional Maasai lifestyle, culture, and traditions, and visit their bomas (clusters of huts belonging to extended families). Participate in various activities such as animal milking, cattle grazing, food gathering, firewood collection, and enjoy their singing, dancing, and storytelling. Maasai women will offer handmade Maasai jewelry for purchase, and children will be delighted to accompany you. Remember to ask for permission before taking photographs.
Later in the evening, return to your accommodation at Acacia Campsite for dinner and an overnight stay.
Lake Natron
Lake Natron - After breakfast, explore another stunning landscape by walking down to the floor of the Rift Valley. The trek from Acacia Campsite to Lake Natron takes 3 to 4 hours. From this vantage point, you can see Lake Natron, Oldonyo Lengai, and the expansive Serengeti plains. A vehicle will pick you up at the base of the volcano and transport you back to Arusha.
