Arusha to Lemosho Gate
Kilimanjaro Region - Guests will be collected from their hotel around 08:00 am and transported to the Lemosho gate on Kilimanjaro’s western side. Following registration, the climb begins through the lush forests of the Lemosho glades, leading to Big Tree Camp for an overnight stay.
Big Tree Camp (2780m) to Shira 1 Camp (3500m)
Kilimanjaro National Park - The trek today crosses a plateau of grassy moorland and heather, dotted with volcanic rock formations. The destination is Shira 1 Camp, offering frequent views of Kibo Peak floating among the clouds. The route gains a significant amount of altitude and includes some steep sections.
Shira 1 Camp (3500m) to Shira 2 Camp (3900m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - Today provides an opportunity to view the Northern Ice fields from the mountain’s western side, with unique perspectives of Kibo. The steady climb across the Shira Plateau’s moorland aids acclimatization, offering stunning panoramic views. The goal is Shira 2 Camp, with an afternoon acclimatization walk before returning to camp for dinner and overnight.
Shira 2 Camp (3900m) to Barranco Camp (3960m)
Kilimanjaro National Park - The trek begins with an ascent offering expansive views, entering the upland desert climatic zone and traversing lava ridges beneath the Western Breach glaciers. The distinct pinnacle of the Lava Tower (4640 m) is reached, serving as the day’s high point and a perfect lunch spot. A steep descent follows to the camp for the night, located at the base of the Great Barranco Valley (3960 m), surrounded by towering cliffs with extensive views of the plains below.
Barranco Camp (3960m) to Karanga Camp (3963m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - The day starts with a descent into the Great Barranco, a vast ravine. The route then ascends steeply up the Great Barranco Wall, separating the group from Kibo’s southeastern slopes. The climb involves rock scrambling, which is not technical but can be tiring. Passing beneath the Heim and Kersten glaciers, the path leads to the Karanga Valley. A steep climb from the valley reaches the night’s camp at Karanga Camp, set at 3963m. For those feeling strong, a mid-afternoon acclimatization trek to around 4200m is available before returning to camp for the night.
Day 7: Karanga Camp (3963) to Barafu Camp (4640m)
Kilimanjaro National Park - After a restful night and breakfast, the journey continues to Barafu Camp at 4640m. The climb traverses barren scree slopes devoid of vegetation. The steep ascent is challenging due to the altitude. Upon arrival at camp, guests eat and rest in preparation for the long night and day ahead. Staying hydrated and warm is crucial. An early dinner is followed by an attempt to sleep, as the climb to the summit begins between 11 pm and 12 am.
Barafu Camp (4640m) to UHURU PEAK (5895m) to Crater Camp (5,790m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - The summit approach begins before dawn, reaching Uhuru Peak in the early afternoon when few groups are present. A short descent leads to Crater Camp, nestled in soft sands near the renowned Furtwangler Glacier. Crater Camp is not a standalone route but a challenging extension that can be added to any route, involving an overnight stay in the crater’s bowl. This extraordinary experience is enjoyed by only a few of the most adventurous climbers.
Crater Camp (5,790m) to Uhuru Peak (5895m) to Millennium Camp (3790m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - After an early breakfast, the descent begins by returning to Stella Point, then continuing down the scree slope past Barafu Camp for a brief rest before proceeding to Millennium Camp for a well-deserved long rest.
Millennium Camp (3790m) to Mweka Gate (1630m)
Kilimanjaro Region - The final day involves a walk through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where park formalities are completed and certificates are awarded, ready to be displayed with pride. Vehicles then transport guests back to their hotel in Arusha.

The Lemosho Route is often regarded as the premier path on Mount Kilimanjaro. Previously, climbers primarily used two main routes to ascend Kilimanjaro – the Marangu (Coca Cola) route and the Machame (Whiskey) route. However, with the growth of Tanzania’s tourism sector, the Kilimanjaro park authority introduced additional trails to Africa’s tallest peak. Lemosho, a relatively new path, is favored by esteemed operators for its scenic beauty, seclusion, and high success rate. In essence, it enhances the likelihood of climbers reaching the summit and having an enjoyable experience. The Lemosho route can be completed in as few as six days (five nights) on the mountain.
