Arusha - Arrive at any time at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where a safari driver will be waiting to transport you to Arusha at Moivaro Coffee Lodge. The rest of the day is free for leisure. Moivaro Coffee Lodge is beautifully situated on coffee farms, making it an ideal spot to prepare for your adventure.
A pre-safari briefing and equipment check will be held at the hotel.
It will also be confirmed that you have the necessary medical coverage and travel insurance.
Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park - You will then travel to Tarangire National Park, a journey of approximately two and a half hours on well-maintained tarmac roads. The park is named after the Tarangire River, which flows through it. This ‘river of warthogs’ is the sole water source for wildlife in the area during the dry season. The park is renowned for its elephant families, often seen gathering by the river. You may also spot giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests, along with predators like lions and leopards. Tarangire boasts more breeding bird species than anywhere else on Earth! The park is also home to ancient baobab trees, some over a thousand years old. Lunch will be enjoyed at a picnic site within the park. After your game drive, you will proceed to your accommodation in Karatu.
Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti
Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, you will ascend into the cooler regions of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The first sight of Ngorongoro Crater resembles a lost world. Hidden by steep volcanic walls is a pristine wilderness featuring expansive savannah, acacia woodlands, and shimmering lakes and swamps. The Crater was formed when a massive volcano erupted and collapsed in on itself two to three million years ago, covering an area of 260 km². It is renowned for its geological wonders and as a natural reserve with some of the densest large mammal populations in Africa. Upon descending into the Crater, you will encounter large herds of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and over 500 bird species. The Crater offers the best chance to see the endangered black rhino. You will then travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the Serengeti, entering from the south of the park.
Serengeti to Karatu
Serengeti National Park - The Serengeti is truly magnificent, known for its vast open grasslands that provide excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. The Serengeti’s climate and vegetation have remained largely unchanged for millions of years. While it is rich in wildlife, it is perhaps most famous for the annual Great Migration. Huge numbers of wildebeest, along with large numbers of zebra and antelope, move in an annual pattern, constantly seeking fresh grazing. The migration can be observed at any time of year; it’s just a matter of knowing where to look! The focus should be on the ‘best places’ to see the animals during a specific time of year. In addition to the iconic landscapes, there is a good chance of encountering predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards. It is a truly transformative experience. In the afternoon, you will begin your journey back to Karatu, hopefully experiencing more wonders along the way!
Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha
Lake Manyara National Park - After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a small yet diverse park located 120km west of Arusha. Everything here is on a different scale. It is both compact (one of the narrowest parks in Africa) and grand (the Great Rift Escarpment towers over Lake Manyara’s western boundary). The park’s namesake is a shallow, salt lake that covers a large portion of the park, flooding and drying with the seasons, and is home to thousands of wading birds, including flamingos and over 500 other bird species. You may spot baboons and elephants in the park’s dense evergreen forest, and keep an eye out for the tree-climbing lions that have gained fame throughout Africa. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park. After your game drive, you will bid farewell to your guide and be dropped off at a location of your choice, such as Arusha, Kilimanjaro Airport, or Arusha Airport.
