Shira 2 camp
Kilimanjaro National Park - Elevation: 3504m/11,496ft to 3895m/12,779ft

Spend a full day exploring the Shira plateau. It’s a gentle walk east toward Kibo’s glaciered peak, across the plateau leading to Shira 2 camp on moorland meadows by a stream. Then, continue to Moir Hut, a less frequented site at the base of Lent Hills. Various walks are available on Lent Hills, making this an excellent opportunity for acclimatization. Shira is one of the highest plateaus on earth.
LAVA TOWER – BARRANCO CAMP: 10.1KM/6.3MI | 4-6HRS | SEMI DESERT
Mount Kilimanjaro - Although the day ends at a similar elevation as it began, it is crucial for acclimatization. From Shira Plateau, continue east up a ridge, passing the junction towards Kibo peak, then head southeast towards the Lava Tower, known as the “Shark’s Tooth” (elev. 4650m/15,250ft). Shortly after the tower, reach a second junction leading to the Arrow Glacier. Then, descend to overnight at Barranco Camp.
BARRANCO CAMP – KARANGA CAMP: 5.2KM/3MI | 4-5HRS | ALPINE DESERT

After breakfast, continue on a steep ridge up to the adventurous Barranco Wall, then to the Karanga Valley and the junction connecting with the Mweka Trail. This day showcases the crew’s power, agility, and strength as they navigate the wall with apparent ease. Overnight at Karanga Camp.
HIKE KARANGA CAMP – BARAFU CAMP: 3.3KM /2 MI | 4-5HRS | ALPINE DESERT
Kilimanjaro National Park - Continue ascending toward Barafu Camp. Upon arrival, the South Circuit is completed, offering breathtaking summit views from various angles. Enjoy an early dinner and rest in preparation for summit night. Overnight at Barafu Camp.

Excitement builds as the morning begins with an early start between midnight and 2 a.m. This is the most mentally and physically challenging part of the trek.
Proceed to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers, staying warm and focused on the incredible sense of achievement ahead. Ascend through heavy scree in a switchback motion towards Stella Point on the crater rim. Enjoy a magnificent sunrise during a short rest here. Faster hikers may witness the sunrise from the summit. The remaining 1-hour ascent to Uhuru Peak is likely to be snow-covered.
Congratulations, step by step, you have reached Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the entire continent of Africa!
After photos, celebrations, and perhaps a few tears of joy, take a moment to savor this incredible accomplishment. Begin the steep descent to Mweka Camp, stopping at Barafu for lunch and a brief rest. Gaiters and trekking poles are highly recommended for the loose gravel and volcanic ash terrain. A well-deserved rest awaits you to enjoy your last evening on the mountain. Overnight at Mweka Camp.
MWEKA CAMP – MWEKA GATE – MOSHI: 9.1KM/6MI |3-4HRS | RAINFOREST
Kilimanjaro National Park - Elevation: 3106m/10,190ft to 1633m/5358ft
Altitude lost: 1473m
After breakfast and a heartfelt ceremony of appreciation and team bonding with the crew, it’s time to say goodbye. Continue the descent to the Mweka Park Gate to receive summit certificates. As the weather is significantly warmer, the terrain is wet, muddy, and steep, so gaiters and trekking poles are highly recommended.
From the gate, a vehicle will meet you at Mweka village to drive you back to your hotel in Arusha (about 30 minutes). Enjoy a long-awaited hot shower, dinner, and celebrations!
