Day 1: Arusha - Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Conservation Area - The driver will collect you from your hotel in Arusha, with a picnic lunch provided for a full-day tour of the Ngorongoro Crater. You will descend 2000 feet into the crater in a 4-wheel drive vehicle, explore the area, and then ascend to your lodge located on the crater rim. Often referred to as ‘Africa’s Eden’ and the ‘8th Natural Wonder of the World,’ the Ngorongoro Crater is a major attraction for tourists visiting Tanzania and is considered a world-class destination.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is home to the Ngorongoro Crater. It was formed approximately 2.5 million years ago when a volcanic mountain collapsed due to inactivity, and it was once believed to be taller than Tanzania’s renowned Kilimanjaro. The crater has become a unique and essential part of Tanzania’s ecosystem. It is actually a caldera, measuring 22.5 km across, with rim walls standing 600 meters high. The views from both within and from the rim are stunning. In the evening, return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 2: Ngorongoro - Serengeti National Park (Central Serengeti)

Serengeti National Park - Start your day early with the sounds of the African bush and enjoy a hearty breakfast before embarking on a full-day game drive across the Serengeti plains. Your knowledgeable guide will lead you through the expansive grasslands, woodlands, and kopjes, searching for migrating herds and the predators that follow them. Keep your camera ready to capture an incredible variety of wildlife, including lions, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, and more. In the evening, return to your accommodation for a delightful dinner and a chance to unwind under the starlit sky.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park (North Mara)

Serengeti National Park - After breakfast at the camp, set off with your picnic lunch for a game drive to witness the great migration.

Serengeti National Park - The Wagakuria area boasts exceptionally high numbers of resident wildlife, with lion prides as large as 30. From August to October, the area transforms into a wildlife haven. The Mara River is a key feature, and it is common to see herds crossing the river north one day and back south a few days later. Please note that witnessing a crossing can be challenging and often depends on luck.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park (North Mara)

Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, enjoy a full day of game viewing at the Mara River, observing the great migration river crossing. In the evening, return to the camp for a bonfire, dinner, and overnight stay.

River crossings at Kogatende begin to occur daily in August as the mega herd settles in the area. From August to October, game viewing here is exceptional, with river crossings almost guaranteed every day. There is no distinct movement as the herds tend to cross back and forth over the river, following the rains and fresh grasses. It is not uncommon to see different herds crossing in various directions on the same day.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park - Departure

Arusha - As your Serengeti Great Migration Safari concludes, enjoy a final game drive through the park, bidding farewell to the wildlife and landscapes that have captivated you. After breakfast, you will be transferred back to the Kogatende Airstrip for your flight to Arusha. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport for your flight home.
