Arusha to Tarangire
Tarangire National Park - Following a morning safari briefing and a drive of approximately 2 hours, you will reach Tarangire National Park. The park’s giant baobab trees, bush savannah, and seasonal marshes contribute to its natural beauty. Tarangire is renowned as one of the premier locations to observe elephants up close, with thousands of these majestic creatures undisturbed by vehicles. The park also hosts buffaloes, zebras, and wildebeests, often accompanied by predators like lions. While leopards are occasionally seen, cheetahs are rare. From the open roof of the safari vehicle, you can take in the landscape and watch the wildlife until sunset.
Full Day in Tarangire Park
Tarangire National Park - Enjoy a full day of game drives in Tarangire National Park, Tanzania’s third-largest national park. There will be ample opportunities for wildlife viewing as you explore the park. After a lunch break at Tarangire Sopa Lodge, you can relax before the afternoon game drive. Tarangire features diverse ecosystems, from northern grasslands and woodlands to southern scrub and wetlands. The Tarangire River flows through the park, emptying into Lake Burunge to the west. The park is home to one of East Africa’s largest and most visible elephant populations, with many calves born each year as the population recovers from past poaching. You’ll witness elephant herds and gain insight into their social structures. The park is also famous for its ancient baobab trees, some over 400 years old, and its stunning landscapes.
Tarangire to Lake Manyara
Lake Manyara - After breakfast, travel from Tarangire to Lake Manyara National Park. The park is renowned for its over 400 bird species, primate-rich forests, and grassy plains. A significant portion of the park is covered by the alkaline Lake Manyara, a seasonal breeding ground for large flamingo colonies and various waterfowl. The park also hosts giraffes, hippos, wildebeests, impalas, and lively groups of monkeys and baboons.
Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater - Rise and shine! After breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater floor for a full day of game drives. This vast collapsed volcano is home to over 25,000 mammals, including the “Big Five” - lions, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, and leopards, as well as spotted hyenas, rare wild dogs, and over 500 bird species. After an extensive game drive and a picnic lunch, you will leave the caldera in the late afternoon and return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Ngorongoro to Serengeti
Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, journey through the cooler highlands towards the southern Serengeti, arriving at the Serengeti National Park plains by midday. This park, the largest in Tanzania, boasts diverse habitats and landscapes, including short grass plains, savannah, thick bush, swamps, and lakes. Unique rock formations known as kopjes are scattered across the grassy landscape, often serving as vantage points for predators. The Serengeti is famous for the annual migration, where hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebras travel in search of fresh grass and water.
Full Day in Serengeti Park
Serengeti National Park - Spend the entire day observing wildlife in the Serengeti National Park. The areas visited will depend on the location of the migrating herds. Predators, including lions, leopards (often in acacia trees), and cheetahs, typically follow the migrating animals. During the short rainy season in November and December, the herds move from the northern hills to the southern plains. In the longer rainy season from April to June, they return north. As the migration is influenced by annual rainfall, the herds’ locations may vary each year, but your guide will know where to find them for optimal viewing.
Serengeti to Arusha/Departure
Serengeti National Park - On your departure journey to the Seronera Airstrip, catch a flight that typically departs at 8 am from central Serengeti to Arusha Airport. Arrive in time for an early lunch, then transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight.
