Day 1: Tarangire National Park
Babati - Professional tour guides will greet guests at the hotel and provide a briefing about the tour. The journey will take them to Tarangire, a hidden gem on the Northern circuit. Although often overshadowed by the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire boasts impressive concentrations of wildlife during peak months and attracts fewer visitors compared to other Northern parks. From July to October, the game viewing is exceptional, offering a unique atmosphere and habitat distinct from other parks. The park’s rare treasures include dwarf mongoose, Oryx, and gerenuk, though sightings are uncommon. Tarangire is also one of Tanzania’s premier bird-watching destinations.
The primary activity in Tarangire is daytime game driving, but staying outside the park allows for walking and night safaris. There are no boat safaris on the Tarangire River. After an extensive game drive, enjoyed from the open roof of the vehicle, guests will leave the park and head to a nearby campsite for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater - Arusha
Ngorongoro Crater - After a delightful breakfast, guests will depart for the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Any Northern Tanzania itinerary must include the Ngorongoro Crater, renowned as one of the most stunning natural wildlife safari locations globally and an exceptional place to engage with the Masaai tribe.
The Ngorongoro Crater and its surrounding highlands form one of Africa’s most picturesque regions. Volcanic craters provide breathtaking backdrops to some of Africa’s most fertile and rich grazing grounds. The Ngorongoro Crater is the most famous of these, being the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and home to the highest density of big game in Africa, including the Big Five and numerous predators. It is the best location in Tanzania to observe the Big Five. A thriving population of black rhino and some of Africa’s largest tusker elephants are the highlights, but the Crater also hosts strong populations of lion, leopard, and hyena, along with substantial herds of wildebeest, buffalo, and zebra. Other wildlife in the Ngorongoro includes serval cats, cheetahs, jackals, Grant’s and Thompson’s gazelles, flamingos, and bat-eared foxes.
Guests will enjoy a picnic lunch in the crater and continue the game drive afterward. Later in the afternoon, they will ascend the steep walls of the crater to return to Arusha.
