Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park - Begin the day with an early departure from your Arusha hotel, heading south to the breathtaking Tarangire National Park. Arrive at a picnic site by noon, just in time for a delightful lunch. The afternoon game drive will unveil the marvels of Tarangire, often called the ‘Elephant Playground’. Occasionally, herds of up to 300 elephants can be spotted in the park. During the dry season, Tarangire rivals other parks in terms of animal density. Besides elephants, the park is home to buffalo, lions, wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles, which are considered ‘local specialties’. The marshy shores of Lake Burungi attract these mammals and numerous beautiful bird species. Keep an eye out for giant kingfishers, hoopoes, and the charmingly named white-bellied go-away bird. Tarangire is renowned for its magnificent baobab trees, rolling savannah, and acacia woodland. After an inspiring afternoon with the wildlife, retreat to the campsite for an evening meal and some relaxation.
Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara National Park - Following breakfast at the campsite, collect a picnic lunch and set off for Lake Manyara. This park is renowned for its tree-climbing lions, but they are just one of many highlights. By the end of an exciting afternoon, you might have seen elephants, hippos, wildebeests, buffaloes, and giraffes, along with many other species. Pink-hued flamingos, one of the 400 bird species recorded here, add a splash of color. At the end of the afternoon, return to your campsite for relaxation and a delicious dinner.
Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Conservation Area - Often described as a wonder of the world, Ngorongoro Crater will reveal its splendor during your early morning game drive.
First, there is the volcanic caldera (the world’s largest), filled with grassland, forest, and swamp, creating a breathtaking setting. Secondly, the permanent water on the crater floor supports a resident population of over 25,000 large mammals. Here, you’ll encounter many of the reasons for your safari: elephants, lions, leopards, hyenas, jackals, wallowing hippos, waterbucks, baboons, and even the rare black rhino.
Sharing this incredible space with the animals are the Maasai, who graze their cattle in this area, which has been a separate conservation area since 1956 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978. This harmonious coexistence of humans and wildlife makes Ngorongoro unique in Tanzania, and your driver guide will be delighted to explain this remarkable cohabitation to you.
Lake Eyasi for Hadza and Datoga Visit
Lake Eyasi - Enjoy morning and afternoon activities at the camp with your guide. Due to the nomadic lifestyle of the Hadzabe tribe, visits with them cannot be guaranteed, but your guide will make every effort to arrange this if possible. Trekking with this tribe is one of the most captivating experiences available in East Africa. They are the last of the hunter-gatherer tribes, and joining them on a hunt transports you to a different era.
Walks range from 5-8 km, and at times they move quite swiftly. If they encounter any sizeable game, they will pursue it at great speed, making it nearly impossible to keep up. In such cases, your guide will lead you back to camp. This is a rare occurrence, and most of the time, they find only small game. You will also have the chance to take a short walk with the women and observe how the families live in this challenging environment.
