- Al Salt - Begin your journey with a hotel pick-up in Amman, traveling in a private leisure vehicle with an English-speaking driver who also serves as your guide. Head north to the historic city of As-Salt, a UNESCO World Heritage site, once considered as a potential capital of Jordan. Nestled on hills, As-Salt was governed by the Romans and Byzantines before flourishing under Ottoman rule from the 1890s to the 1920s. Explore the city with a local guide, immersing yourself in the vibrant colors, aromas, textures, and sounds, and experience the daily life and grandeur of As-Salt.
- Abu Jaber Museum - This walking tour highlights the town’s main attractions and experiences. Visit the Historic Old Salt Museum, located in the stunning Abu Jaber House, which symbolizes the city’s prosperity at the end of the 19th century. It has been transformed into the Historical Old Salt Museum, displaying the city’s golden age history. Al Ain Plaza, As-Salt’s old downtown, is surrounded by Hammam Street, Al-Eskafyeh stairs, and Al Khayateen stairs. Observe the elders playing Mangaleh, the most renowned game in As-Salt, passed down through generations. Visit the Great Mosque, originally built in the 13th century and reconstructed in 2007 in Al Ain Plaza, showcasing a blend of modern and traditional architecture. As a town that values interfaith harmony, the mosque’s stairs lead to the Church of the Good Shepherd. Relish the taste of As-Salt’s traditional bread at A’shour Bakery, Shrak, baked using historical tools. Experience the local atmosphere at the farmers’ market, where independent shops offer fresh produce from local farms. Discover intricately crafted silver and gold at the jewelry market, featuring handmade accessories and authentic designs.
- Al Salt - Explore Hammam Street, the main shopping area in As-Salt for over 150 years. Established between 1881-1884, Hammam Street is a pedestrian zone, designed to resemble the old main street. Walk along Al-Eskafyeh Street, a short path connecting Hammam Street to Al-Khader Street. “Eskafi” means shoemaker in Arabic, and the shoemaker’s trade is still thriving on the Al-Eskafyeh stairs, where shoes are made and repaired. As-Salt has maintained its support for independent local businesses, preserving its economic uniqueness with various sweet shops, butchers, perfumeries, nut shops, and spice shops. Enjoy free time to explore these shops and purchase souvenirs (at your own expense). Optional lunch at a local restaurant: City Balcony, Al Gherbal, or Beit Aziz; or enjoy a home-cooked meal for an authentic experience. The tour concludes with a hotel drop-off in Amman.
- Al Salt - Upgrade: Depending on your interests, you may choose to engage in additional activities such as Henna Drawings or Local Costume Dressing Experience. Outdoor activities in As-Salt or the Jalad area, like paintball, are available upon request. You may also visit the Jalad Cultural Center at an additional cost, if desired.
