Ikuno is centrally located in Hyogo Prefecture, connecting Tajima and Harima. The town features the headwaters of the Maruyama River, which flows to the Sea of Japan, and the Ichikawa River, which flows to the Seto Inland Sea, making it a watershed for northern and southern Hyogo Prefecture. According to legend, the Ikuno silver mine opened in the 2nd year of the Daido era (807). During the Edo era, a magistrateâs office was established in Ikuno, and the silver mine has long contributed to the townâs prosperity.
