- Astana - Visitors are warmly welcomed by the family dressed in traditional attire. After exploring the vast collection of antiques, they step into a yurt, a traditional Kazakh home, and become acquainted with historical kitchen items. They observe how kumys, a national beverage, was traditionally stored, what women used to prepare their feasts, and how meals were enjoyed among beautifully embroidered carpets and pillows.
Following this, a masterclass on cooking traditional Kazakh dishes begins. The family’s matriarch guides participants through the process of preparing the dough for beshbarmak, explaining each step before and after: boiling the meat; kneading, rolling out, and cutting the dough; and serving everything on a large round dish. Participants learn to make their own baursaks, which are puffy golden balls of dough, fried and served hot. Baursak is more than just a pastry; it has symbolized the sun and happiness since ancient times, and is therefore served only to the most cherished and loved guests. As participants spend a few hours observing and learning through practice, they gain insight into the food traditions of the Kazakhs.
After preparing Kazakh dishes, guests will enjoy a meal with a warm Kazakh family.

Another craft this family takes pride in is preparing traditional meals like beshbarmak. The name means “five fingers” because Kazakh people traditionally ate the dish with their hands instead of utensils. Another delightful treat in Kazakh cuisine is baursaks, a fried dough delicacy that is sure to become a favorite.
Seize this unique opportunity to visit a traditional Kazakh family of craftsmen, where you can learn to cook traditional dishes and discover how dinnerware was crafted in the past. The father and the youngest son are skilled jewelry makers. The daughter is a master of applied arts, creating felt carpets. If you wish, you can also participate in other family master classes, such as jewelry or felt making.
