- Hirkan National Park - Nestled in the southern region of Azerbaijan, within the Talysh Mountains, Hirkan National Park is a natural gem. This mountainous park is adorned with a stunning deciduous forest. The park boasts a rich diversity of plant species, rivaling the finest international World Heritage sites, with 95 tree species and at least 110 shrub species. In total, there are approximately 1,300 plant species, with 29 endemic to Azerbaijan and another 29 unique to the Caucasus. In the park’s highlands, the elusive Persian leopard, once thought extinct like the Caspian Tiger, was rediscovered in 2007. Red foxes, wolves, and lynxes also inhabit this area of the park.
- Khanbulanchay Reservoir - This scenic reservoir, located in the lower foothills, is ideal for a picnic and a leisurely nature walk. Its name translates to “the spring of the khan” in Azerbaijani. Constructed in 1976 in the Lenkoran region, the lake stretches 4.7 km in length and 2.2 km in width. It is surrounded by forests that are part of Hirkan National Park.
