A great introduction to Greek food and surrounding neighborhoods of Athens - The food tour was better than I imagined! Our guide, Elena, was amazing! We started in Syntagma Square and as we walked through the neighborhood, Elena pointed out some points of interests as well as talked about Greek culture. And she gave us recipes at the end of our tour! Just as their website states, you will end the tour feeling full, so definitely have a light breakfast. I appreciated that we just didn't go from one food place to another, we went inside a church, walked through the meat and fish market, as well as the fruit and vegetable market, and other places. Booking through the website was easy. They were communicative and responded timely to my inquiries. I highly recommend Alternative Athens and Elena. What a great way to start your visit in Athens -- a great introduction to Greek food and surrounding neighborhoods!

The sights, the sounds, the smells, the history, but best of all - the food! - Our tour guide was Andreas - knowledgeable, friendly, and an excellent ambassador for all that is Athens. The tour works its way zig-zagging from Syntagma square to Monastiraki square. The tour is 3 hours long and ends in a sit-down meal with Grecian specialties. The problem is you are probably full by the time you get there as you have stopped for breakfast pastry, loukoumades at the oldest purveyor in Athens, souvlaki from the oldest stand in Athens, Greek coffee with Turkish delight, and copious amounts of fresh bread at your olive oil tasting. A quick tour to the open air meat and fish market show the wide variety of items available for fresh purchase. This tour should be everyone's first in Athens as it gives you an appreciation for everything Greek - their history, their food, their neighborhoods and their attitudes.

Greek Food Tastings - This was an excellent tour. Our tour guide was Klelia, who was great. She provided much information, not only on food but also Greek history. There were only three participants in the tour, and that made it even better and more personalized. Not too much walking as the places we visited were maybe 5 minutes apart. Plenty of time at each stop to enjoy the food and learn about its origin. The finishing touch was a pork souvlaki at one of the best local places, and it was excellent! Definitely plenty of food on this tour, and so glad I took this tour. Highly recommend.

Don’t eat breakfast! - My wife and I took this tour in late April. The first thing I can tell you is skip breakfast. While the servings are small, by the time we made it to our last stop, we had to take our wrap to go and eat it later. Our guide Jonathan was very nice, spoke good English, and was knowledgeable. We got lucky and our group only consisted of three people so it allowed more individual interaction. All the food we ate was delicious. We also did an olive oil tasting which was very interesting. You will do some walking/standing so wear comfortable shoes. I would say we walked no more than 5 minutes between any stop and most of that time was stopping to talk or playing frogger with the traffic. PAY ATTENTION WHEN WALKING!! Greek drivers do not respect pedestrian traffic. The total tour took exactly 3.5 hours and was a good half day experience.

Awesome experience!!! - The tour exceeded my best expectations and we truly enjoyed Andreas’ passionate accounting of the history of Greece and how it played a role in the culinary offerings we got to savour. Not only was the food great with an excellent variety, but Andreas provided so much relevant historic information which put everything into context. Highly recommended and I will come back for it on my next trip to Greece.

Nikos, the best! - Nikos took us on a taste walk in Athens and it will remain our best memory. Nikos is very cultured, totally available to his customers and fond of sharing the love of his country, his culture and his history. There were three of us, Nikos, my husband and myself. To be done as a couple or group, at the beginning of the stay. Nikos will share with you its good addresses and tips. Must do during your stay in the Hellenic capital.
