• Upon your arrival at Monastiraki Square, please look for one of our experienced tour leaders who will be holding a sign of “Athens Walks The Food Tour” at the entrance of the small church.

• Aiolou - Stroll along the pedestrian sidewalk of Aiolou Street, named after Aiolos, the god of winds.

• Agia Irini Church - Stroll through the bustling square surrounded by cozy cafes leading up to Agia Irini Church.

• Evripidou - Head to Athens’ most aromatic street for deli items, herbs, and spices.

• Central Market - Walk inside the Athens’ central market, the Varvakeios market, where you can find a variety of fresh fish and meat, as well as other locally sourced products

• Platia Theatrou - Theatrou Square is the new go-to destination for small, local, and authentic restaurants

• Psirri - Wander through the funky art neighborhood of Psirri.

• Monastiraki Square - The tour ends back at Monastiraki Square where you first met your tour leader.

Explore the food markets of Athens on a 4-hour walking tour and taste some of the delicious treats on offer. Start with a traditional Greek breakfast of koulóuria (sesame bread rings), and then make your way to a century-old pastry shop to sample loukoumades (Greek donuts) and custard-filled filo squares. Enjoy local pies and cheeses at authentic Greek bakeries. Next, wander through the meat and fish market, the living monument markets of the city. Try dark roasted coffee to one of the older coffee roasters downtown. Enjoy some local wine, organic produce olive oil and honey, seven-year-old aromatized vinegar, and the world-famous Greek yogurt at a small shop that sells fantastic gifts for your friends back home. Wander down Evripidou Street, scented by herbs. Visit a local tavern and explore mezedes plates (local tapas). Then end your culinary exploration by enjoying the famous Greek souvlaki with chicken or pork gyros (Vegetarians are welcome, gluten-free cannot be accommodated).
