On this historic hill, you can explore the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Temple of Athena Nike, the grand entrance (Propylaea), the Erechtheum, and the renowned Parthenon, the main temple dedicated to the virgin goddess Athena.
- Propylaea - The Propylaea serves as the grand entrance to the sacred area honoring Athena, the city’s patron goddess. Designed by architect Mnesicles using Pentelic marble, its design was innovative. To the southwest of the Propylaea, on a rampart guarding the main entrance to the Acropolis, stands the Ionian temple of Apteros Nike.
- Parthenon - The Parthenon is the principal temple dedicated to the virgin goddess Athena, symbolizing Athenian Democracy and Western Civilization.
- Erechtheion - This temple, dedicated to Poseidon and Athena, is the most unique and sacred site in ancient Athens.
- Temple of Athena Nike - A temple devoted to the goddess Athena Nike, symbolizing Wingless Victory.
- Theater of Dionysus - The Theatre of Dionysus Eleuthereus is a significant theatre in Athens, recognized as the world’s first theatre, located at the base of the Athenian Acropolis.
- Herod Atticus Odeon - The Odeon of Herodes Atticus is a Roman stone theatre on the southwest slope of the Acropolis of Athens, Greece. Completed in 161 AD, it was renovated in 1950.
- Panathenaic Stadium - Visit the Panathenaic Stadium, the site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.
- Dromeas - Created by Kostas Varotsos in 1988, Dromeas features glass fragments that interact with light and water. As Athens’ first public modern art piece, it sparked discussions and debates.
- Mount Lycabettus - Journey to the historical city center and ascend Lycabettus Hill, the highest point in Athens, for a panoramic view from the Acropolis hill to the Aegean Sea.
- The Academy of Athens - Part of an “architectural trilogy,” the Academy was established on March 18, 1926, as an institution for Sciences, Humanities, and Fine Arts.
- The Academy of Athens - The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is Greece’s largest state higher education institution and one of Europe’s largest universities. Designed by Danish architect Christian Hansen, it was completed in 1864.
- National Library of Greece - Built in the late 19th century, the National Library is the final piece of Athens’ Architectural Trilogy, which includes the Academy and the University. Designed by Theophil Hansen.
- Hellenic Parliament - Known in Greek as Voulí ton Ellínon, the Hellenic Parliament is Greece’s legislative body, located in the Old Royal Palace overlooking Syntagma Square in Athens.
- Tomb of the Unknown Soldier - Witness the changing of the guard (Euzones) in front of the old palace, now the Parliament House, above Athens’ central square.
- Plateia Syntagmatos - Syntagma Square, Athens’ central square, is named after the Constitution granted by King Otto following a popular and military uprising on September 3, 1843.
- Ancient Agora of Athens - The Ancient Greek Agora is regarded as the birthplace of democracy, philosophy, and free speech.
- Acropolis Museum - Alternatively, visit the Acropolis Museum instead of the Ancient Agora. Upon entering, view the ancient Athenian neighborhood ruins through the plexiglass floor, integrated into the museum’s design. This modernist museum at the Acropolis’ southern slope showcases treasures still in Greek possession, focusing on the 5th century BCE Acropolis, the pinnacle of Greece’s artistic achievement.

Athens - Our driver Yiannis made the seamless tour interesting with extra information about the sights and attractions we passed. Skip the lines was very welcome as attractions can get busy.

Fun Day - Our knowledgeable guide Yiannis made our Sunday Athens tour special. From pickup the seamless transitions helped us appreciate the city more quickly than if we had done it on our own. Skip the line tickets, the major points of interest and gyro lunch make this tour a good value.

Theodore is the best guide for the 6 Hours - Athens Sightseeing Private Tour - We took the 6 Hours - Athens Sightseeing Private Tour in July of this year with Theodore as our tour guide. He was the absolute best at providing our group of 4 with many details and insights while touring the beautiful city of Athens. We learned so much from him at all of the sights we visited especially the changing of the guards. He explained the meaning of the entire event in depth and what the process meant as far as history goes.
We really enjoyed our entire day with Theodore and would recommend all to ask to have him as your guide.
