- Delphi - Travel through Levadia and Arachova, known for its vibrant, colorful carpets, to reach Delphi. Here, explore one of the most significant archaeological sites in Greek history. Nestled at the base of Mount Parnassos, between the twin rocks of the Phaedriades, lies the Pan-Hellenic sanctuary of Delphi, home to the most renowned Oracle of ancient Greece. Delphi was considered the center of the world. Mythology tells us that Zeus sent two eagles from the universe’s ends to find the world’s navel, and they met here. The sanctuary of Delphi, set in a breathtaking landscape, served for many centuries as the cultural and religious hub and symbol of unity for the Hellenic world. It was also the venue for the Pythian Games, the second most significant games in Greece after the Olympics, held every four years.
- Temple of Apollo - Situated at the archaeological site of Delphi. Between the sixth and fourth centuries BC, the Delphic Oracle, considered the most reliable, was at its zenith. Delivered by the Pythia, the priestess, and interpreted by Apollo’s priests, the oracle was consulted by cities, rulers, and individuals, who showed their gratitude with lavish gifts, spreading its fame globally. The oracle was believed to have existed since time immemorial, accurately predicting events like the Deukalion cataclysm, the Argonauts’ expedition, and the Trojan War.
- Delphi Archaeological Museum - Explore the archaeological site and the Museum, where visitors can admire various archaeological treasures, including the unique bronze statue of the Charioteer. This statue was dedicated to Apollo by Polyzalos, the tyrant of Gela, in 478 B.C. after winning the chariot race at the Pythian Games. This exceptional statue exemplifies the “severe” Attic style and is undoubtedly the work of a master artist.
