Kalavrita - Arrive at “Diakofto” to board the Cog Railway (Odontotos), which connects Kalavrita with Diakopto through the stunning Vouraikos Canyon, one of Greece’s most beautiful natural sights and a spectacular railway journey. It’s been called the most beautiful train trip in the Balkans. The small train travels through streams, climbs the narrow gorge into the mountains, passes through tunnels, over waterfalls, along cliffs, and through pine and oleander forests. The journey concludes in Kalavryta, where your driver will meet you to continue the tour at the unique “Cave of the Lakes,” a rare natural wonder with 13 lakes, each a different color due to the oxides in the rocks. The Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus - After breakfast, you can visit either Palamidi Castle, accessible by climbing 999 steps, or take a small boat to “Bourtzi,” the fortress at the harbor entrance. Then, head to Epidaurus to visit the Ancient Theatre, renowned for its incredible acoustics, still in use today!

Archaeological Site Mycenae - Return to Nafplio for an optional lunch, then proceed to the ancient town of Mycenae and its archaeological site, featuring the Lion Gate, Cyclopean Walls, Royal Palace, and Agamemnon’s tomb.

Olympia - Honey, Olive Oil and Wine Tasting - Naupactus - Delphi

Archaeological Site of Olympia - Begin the day with a tour of Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, transporting you back to 776 B.C. Delphi - After breakfast, your driver will take you to the Ancient Oracle, the Stadium, the Ancient Theatre, which seats over 5,000 spectators, and the Museum of Delphi. Meteora - Veroia - Vergina - Thessaloniki

Meteora - Your driver will pick you up from your hotel at 09:00 to visit the BYZANTINE MONASTERIES of Meteora, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The first stop is The Holy Monastery of Great Meteoro, the largest and oldest of all. It was called the monastery “suspended in the air” (meteoro) due to the gigantic rock formation it sits atop. The second visit is to the great monastery of St. Stephan, a small church built in the 16th century and decorated in 1545.

Museum of the Royal Tombs of Aigai (Vergina) - Depart Meteora to reach Vergina (ancient Aigai) and experience the unique Museum, created in the Great Tumulus covering the royal tombs of Macedonia. Admire the astonishing findings from King Phillip II’s tomb, Alexander’s father, and feel the thrill of the greatest discovery of the 20th century.

Veroia - Just a few miles away is Veria (Biblical Beroea), where you’ll visit Saint Paul’s Bema, then stroll through the old Jewish neighborhood and the colorful market area. Walk in a city where the past is ever-present! Depart from Veroia to head to Thessaloniki for an overnight stay.

Pella - Edessa - Naousa - Thessaloniki

Pella - Depart in the morning for a unique exploration of historical Macedonia. The first stop is Pella, the birthplace of Alexander the Great. See the exquisite floor mosaics of the 4th century B.C. villas, both on-site and in the new Museum.

Edessa Waterfalls - The next stop is the picturesque Edessa, where you’ll admire the town’s famous landmark, the Waterfalls.

Naousa - Proceed to Naoussa, a site of exceptional beauty and importance: Aristotle’s School, the picturesque location where the great philosopher taught ‘the doctrines of morals and politics’ to Alexander the Great and the Macedonian youth. Return for an overnight stay in Thessaloniki.

Thessaloniki - Dion - Athens

Dion Archaeological Park - After breakfast, depart from Thessaloniki for the first stop at the Archaeological Park of Dion, the sacred city of the Macedonians, at the foot of Mount Olympus.

Thermopylae - After your visit, drive south through Thessaly, Lamia, and Thermopylae, where you’ll stop to admire the statue of Leonidas, a memorial to the battle between the 300 Spartans and the Persian Empire soldiers, and Thebes, before arriving at your hotel in Athens.

Athens - Mykonos Exploration

Mykonos Town - You’ll be picked up from your hotel and taken to Piraeus port to catch the 07:25 ferry to Mykonos Island, arriving at 11:25. Mykonos is renowned worldwide for its beaches, vibrant nightlife, picturesque Cycladic houses, luxury hotels, and is also known as the island of winds. Your driver will transfer you to your hotel. A stroll in “Little Venice” or a walk through the narrow streets of “matogiania” will be memorable, offering opportunities to shop for clothes and local items. Relax at your hotel and enjoy Mykonos’ amazing nightlife!

Mykonos - Semi-Private Cruise to Rhenia Beach and Delos

Pick-Up: Your local driver will meet you at your hotel and transfer you to the port for the start of your boat trip.
Delos Exploration (1.5 Hours): Arrive at Delos, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and spend 1.5 hours exploring its ancient ruins, including temples, mosaics, and monuments. Learn about the island’s history and its significance as the mythical birthplace of Apollo and Artemis.

The first must-see is the magnificent sunset from Oia, the most famous sunset in the world. Crowds gather to witness the sun setting! Afterwards, enjoy a drink or dinner in the island’s picturesque capital and stroll through the narrow streets where you can purchase many souvenirs.

Embark on an enchanting Santorini cruise starting with a pick-up at your hotel. Visit the therapeutic Hot Springs on Palea Kameni and enjoy a refreshing swim. Driver <3 - My driver for the trip was Spyros, who is quite possibly now my favorite driver to have ever had. First day there we were running a bit late as the hotel receptionist wasn't there for us to checkout but Spyros still managed to keep up on time and get us to our locations (Corinth Canal and Corinth the ancient city) on time to admire. He supplied us with waters and clean clothes to wipe our hands and had refills whenever we needed them. When on the first day we got distracted by shops he messaged to make sure we were safe and had his car still right where he told us it would be. Throughout the trip he gave us tips and tricks for each location. He warned us of trouble (lots of steps, spots with more pickpockets, locations where there'd be no drinks other than water allowed) and made sure to keep in contact to know we made it safely. He also took photos for us, and told us the best spots for photos. Each evening he confirmed the next mornings pick up time and made sure we got breakfast. He also helped us with our bags every day, which was a huge help, and let us store some things in the car for a few days before we packed it all. He even made a few stops because we wanted to, like at one town where I wanted to see the shops, or so I could climb someplace for a picture! It was wonderful, I loved the experience. And even after we'd finished, I realized I'd left my phone in his car and he made sure I got it promptly. Even further, when there were mix ups with the other drivers we could contact him when we couldn't get ahold of the office and he made sure everything was arranged. Our time with Spyros was wonderful and I truly believe our trip would not have been half as enjoyable without him. We certainly became less hydrated when we left him and his endless supply of water. I hope everyone has a driver as wonderful as Spyros for their trips in Greece.

Beautiful sights, good food, AMAZING people!! - Cannot recommend this experience enough. I was fortunate enough to be invited along by a friend and initially had some serious concerns about being two young twenty-somethings in a foreign country with no Bigger Adults with us, and those concerns were entirely unfounded! Each step of this process is well-guided, with even the “free” times such as arrival days and less packed days being filled with the opportunity to explore the local towns, cuisine, and culture. Every guide and driver we had was wonderful at providing recommendations when asked (and honestly, so was every business owner, hotel staff, or restauranteer)! Of course, the highlight of the trip was absolutely our driver during days 3-9 of our tour— the “road trip” saga as I fondly call it. A good guide can make or break a tour and our driver for those seven days absolutely made this trip the adventure of a lifetime. Spyros was so perfectly professional while also managing to be profoundly personal. He took care of every request we had, from material supplies that we needed to music choices or even stopping to look at cute shops that we passed by. There were consistent check-ins to ensure we were comfortable and that any complaints we had could be addressed quickly, even though we had none! Whenever it came time for meals, he was always armed with restaurant AND dish recommendations that were local, traditional, and nothing short of amazing. He even recommended great shops to stop by any time we mentioned specific gifts we were looking for! Beyond recommendations, he took the opportunity to point out relevant historical scenery and inform us of cultural contexts of locations we were driving past, even if they weren’t stops for our tour. He took the opportunity to get to know us and our interests and shared stories about himself as well, really building a wonderful connection that made him a joy to spend time with on the rides to and from sites or cities. No boring car rides to be found! He did a wonderful job truly immersing us in the country of Greece and allowing us to explore and appreciate its culture and history. Our “Greek-of-the-day” lessons were a wonderful highlight! He armed us with simple, conversational Greek language knowledge to help us navigate our trip easier and I hope to continue my learning even after leaving. I’ve fallen in love with this country and it’s people and, though I don’t know when I’ll be back next, I do know that I’ll absolutely be looking to Private Tours Greece and Spyros to make my next trip one for a lifetime as well! 17 day private tour in Greece - Private Tours went above and beyond our expectations. We had never visted Greece and their customized 17 day tour covered more than we anticipated while still leaving us time to explore on our own. Our drivers, while insisting that they were not guides, were informative and more than willing to make stops en route. Special thanks to our driver Theo who accompanied us for five days through the Peloponnese and Meteora. Our days on the road usually started at 8 and sometimes ended with Theo driving us to our accommodations after dinner. All of our guides at historical sites - too numerous to mention - were great and helped us steer clear of bus loads of other visitors. While we indicated an interest in archeology, the short stops at olive and honey farms were memorable highlights of the trip. Our hotels - especially luxury resorts on Mykonos and Santorini - were outstanding and our hotel in Athens was a short walk from restaurants in Plaka and all the sites near the Acropolis. I would definitely use Private Tours again.

Small group tour of Greece - This was an amazing and educational trip following the footsteps of St. Paul and visiting historic sites in Greece. The tour company was always responsive to our questions and needs. Our driver, George, was magnificent. He listened to our desires and requests and brought us safely to each destination. We cannot say enough good things about this experience and would highly recommend them.

Fantastic trip thru Greek history - We had an amazing trip with PTG this spring - We did a modified trip that covered the Peloponnese (Athens, Mycenae, Epidauros, Sparta, Olympia, Nafplio, Monemvasia) before swinging up to Delphi , Meteora & Macedonia / Thessaloniki, home of Alexander the Great (if you're a history buff you absolutely must go see the tombs & burial goods), Dion / Mt Olympus, then back down to Santorini for a break, and ending in Crete with the Minoans. The sites we visited spanned from the Archaic to modern history. Our driver & guides were all incredibly knowledgeable and did a wonderful job of bringing these historical sites to life, and of course had excellent food recommendations. Breathtaking views everywhere. Great trekking in Monemvasia (light), Meteora (medium) & Crete (Samaria Gorge - long, but very doable - never seen a hiking trail with so many bathrooms before). Very accommodating weather (late May - early June) - limited rain and cruise ships, but plenty of wildflowers. Overall 6 out of 5, would recommend / do again! (and probably will, if they open up more of Pella in Macedon).

Excellent - Working with Private Tours Greece was great! They took all the stress out of planning our trip. All the drivers & tours were on time, they customized our preferences, and gave great recommendations! Patty was our tour coordinator & Panos was our driver during the 8 day Ancient Greece tour. We extended our tour & were in Greece a total of 19 days & island hopped between Mykonos, Santorini, Crete, Rhodes. We were in Greece in March/April 2023, so it wasn’t crowded which was a plus for us! Overall great experience!

Great trip covering all the highlights of old & new Greece - 15 days of nonstop amazing experiences from beginning to end. I can't recommend this tour highly enough. Our original summer plans fell through and we were lucky to find this tour. Normally we like to plan everything ourselves, but having no time to do so, we picked this tour that covers the whole spectrum of activities in Greece, and are grateful we did. It really is a great itinerary, well thought out and paced, that encompasses most of the major attractions, sites and cities that you would want to be introduced to on a first visit to Greece. Our first week found us doing a circle around the mainland from top to bottom, starting and ending in Athens, and was jam packed with historical sights and picturesque towns. We added on the private guides at all the historical sights which I'd highly recommend as a great way to take in the key information and highlights of the sites without being overwhelmed or wasting time deciding what to see. And our driver for the week, Ioannis, couldn't have been a better companion to lead us around, share his favorite places and (dining) recommendations, and add flavor and insight into our understanding of life in Greece when we had questions. His presence was a highlight our trip. While you can always customize the tour, one caveat is warranted: this trip requires a lot of stamina so be forewarned! The second week was more leisurely and allowed us to indulge in some of the island life of hip Mykonos & stunning Santorini, two absolutely must see destinations. Really, do not leave Greece without some time in each of these two islands. In fact, if you can add on an extra day to your visits here, you won't regret the extra time exploring these islands or just having some more time to relax on the beach. In retrospect, I would probably recommend flying to/from the islands rather than the ferries, at least for the longer segments to maximize the time in the islands. The accommodations they arranged for us met all expectations, and often surprised on the upside, and we were impressed with the way they gave us the lodging options in advance, and allowed us choose which place we felt best met our needs, or found alternatives when we wanted to upgrade or customize where we stayed. (Standouts were Hotel Bacchus in Olympia and Lithos by Spyros & Flora in Mykonos, whose owners Marios and Marina went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional.) In fact, the tour operators were always responsive to our questions and requests, and even worked with us during the tour when we wanted to explore changes. Booking direct with Private Tours Greece also allowed us to save on costs by avoiding any middleman tour aggregators. All-in-all a very positive experience and can't recommend this tour highly enough.
