Amazing Experience in Meteora! - What can I say from the experience apart for the fact it met all of my expectations! First let me start off by saying I wasn’t sold on the idea of this activity given the very long journey with the lingering doubt I could potentially be disappointed by what I see. Having very few days in Athens, it also meant going on this journey would mean sacrificing a full precious day in the city. All of these doubts would soon be forgotten when setting my eyes on the first monasteries and seeing the dreamlike landscapes unfold before me as our very friendly and knowledgeable guide brought us on multiple stops to each monastery and photo stops in the mountains which look like something out of the movie Avatar! If you have some doubts, I hope this review speaks to you when I say I have been converted into a believer and highly recommend the lengthy trip to see with your very own eyes why UNESCO choose this as one of its world heritage site, which in unlike anything I had ever seen in this world! It will definitely be a place I never forget, and the pictures I have taken on this trip are simply out of this world! Now for those wondering about the subtle details of the tediously long journey (which I didn’t seem to find particularly clear when booking the trip), here’s the way things unfolded for my experience. The total trip time averages 4-4.5 hours each way. There were no washrooms inside the voyager type bus, but the driver stops halfway (so after about 2 hours) to this cafeteria type restaurant which has a large number of washrooms and also a convenience store to buy any junk food and refreshment you could want for the journey. The first time you stop at this place is a quick 15 minute break for washrooms and snacks. The second time you will return to this place is on the way back when the stop is slightly longer given they allow you time for supper (like I mentioned previously, cafeteria style food is served, or you also have the option of purchasing some pre-made sandwiches for more budget conscious people). The bus itself is very comfortable and has USB charging ports (typical USB-A ports, not the newer USB-C type) if you wish to bring your cords for charging, which is highly recommended given the lengthy journey to help pass the time on your phone, and to keep your phone full for the high number of amazing pictures you’ll be taking! Important to note there is WiFi on the bus which is an absolutely amazing feature to have! Lastly, your arrival at the city itself will generally coincide with lunch time. Depending on the option chosen, you will either have lunch included or not with the tour. The only difference here is the price. At the time of writing this review, the lunch was 15 euros at the restaurant the bus dropped off the group if bought separately (I did not see any other alternative close, so you either pack a lunch if you wish to save money, or head to this other cafeteria style restaurant). There were about 7-8 different types of food in the cafeteria and most were traditional Greek meals which were delicious. If you can score your Viator ticket with the meal per person at less than 15 euros difference, I would say you’re saving some money! So that’s pretty much all of the details I can recall and believe you will need. Hopefully it can help others understanding how the day unfold and the details, and convince you to go see what I truly believe was an enchanting scenery!

Stop hesitating - book this! - Yes, you have to get up early, yes, it’s a long trip with many hours on the bus, yes, you will be back late, but if you’re wondering whether or not it’s worth it - stop wondering, stop thinking, stop reading. Book this trip! Meteora is extremely beautiful, Clement is a fantastic guide, and we had enough time and enough stops to enjoy this place! Thank you, Clement and Alexis for a wonderful day!

A Journey Above the Clouds - The Meteora is truly otherworldly, with massive sandstone pillars and monasteries that seem suspended in the air. This trip was a breathtaking blend of natural wonder and deep spiritual history, and easily the highlight of our travels. The standout of our day was our guide, Clement. His expertise and passion brought the landscape to life. From explaining the 14th-century history of the hermit monks to pointing out the best hidden vantage points for photos, Clement was exceptional. He paced the day perfectly, ensuring we felt immersed in the history without ever feeling rushed. This was a 5-star experience you. Thank you.

Overall, thoroughly enjoyed. Definitely recommend this trip. - It was an amazing trip. The trip provider Mateora Thrones was well organised. Our guide Maria was excellent. She was explaining the history, geology, other stories very well. It gave us a real feel and connected us well with the trip which we were looking for. Both the drives were fabulous and very safe driving. Each direction, it was about 4hrs drive from Athens plus 30mins break but could not feel it as it was very smooth. Great lunch at Mateora at the start of the trip. Overall, thoroughly enjoyed. Definitely recommend this trip.

Poor weather but EXCELLENT day trip!!! - Only reason for 4 stars was the weather that particular day- unavoidable but still slightly disappointing. Maria was our tour guide and she was incredible, she grew up in the area and knows a lot about Meteora. She was so kind and tried to get to know everyone on the tour. Our driver Chris was very impressive! Kept us safe and navigated the narrow streets very well!

Medium fine, if it weren't for miles and a short time to see - Many hours of coach, more stops and not in the same place, more time to see the monastery runs too long for older people is very stressful and very tired

The trip itself was... - The trip itself was beautiful. The scenery and magnificence of the tall rocks and monasteries are worth the long drive. If you have only one day and thinking of this trip and worried about the long drive reviews by others, don’t overthink it- you will love Meteora. And Clement was an excellent guide! The three star rating was not for the trip- it was for the stop for optional dinner that they made along the way. Up until that point we had an amazing time. The bus pulled into this food plaza, and once you’re in, it is very easy to fall into their trap. We had a long day, so when the bus pulled into the stop for dinner, we ordered a souvlaki and a pork gyros. In the line up to pay, the servers keep yelling out “don’t forget to take your salad” multiple times to everyone, and pass you the salad plate, and also the juice, which they pass on to you in glasses. The whole set up is a trap to make you think that it is an all inclusive combo meal that includes a drink and salad. Everyone lined up added the salad and juice to their tray, coz they believed like us it was part of the whole meal. When we came to the counter to pay, the total ended up being close to 35 euros. The food itself was dry and not great, not to mention being ripped off with all the extras. If Meteora thrones is not in on this plan, they should warn clients that this will happen and not to fall for it. Or else, take clients to a better place. Our Meteora experience had ended off on a high note, but this dinner scam ruined the night for us. Please do NOT fall for the meal scam. Other than that, the trip itself was great!
