As you approach the promontory, the columns of the Temple of Poseidon are visible from the road, standing majestically atop a hill and dominating the landscape. The temple was constructed to honor the ancient Greek God of the Sea, Poseidon. On a lower hill, opposite Cape Sounion, you can see the ruins of a second ancient temple dedicated to the Goddess Athena. Take your time to admire the endless blue of the Aegean Sea, with only scattered islands visible in the open sea.
• Lake Vouliagmeni - During the tour, travel through some of the most picturesque suburbs of Athens along a coastal road. The first stop will be at Lake Vouliagmeni, the hidden gem of the ‘Athenian Riviera’. Nestled in an idyllic setting, the lake is part of a rare geological phenomenon, revealed after the collapse of a cave roof due to an earthquake millions of years ago. Lake Vouliagmeni maintains a constant temperature throughout the year, ranging between 18 and 24 Celsius, and its water is brackish, as underground seawater mixes with spring water.
