This island, located near Elounda, was originally fortified by the Venetians in 1579 with a fortress boasting 40 cannons, featuring some of the best-preserved walls in Europe.
From 1903 to 1957, Spinalonga served as a leper colony, providing residents with improved living conditions, medical assistance, and economic support. Visitors can explore the remnants of the market street, shops, hospital, and numerous small houses where lepers once lived in isolation.

Elounda - After departing Spinalonga Island, there is free time to explore the charming village of Elounda or enjoy a swim in the pristine waters of Elounda Bay.

Agios Nikolaos - The tour will proceed to Agios Nikolaos, a town with a population of 14,000, situated along the Gulf of Mirabello. At the heart of Agios Nikolaos lies Lake Voulismeni, likely formed by an earthquake. Here, visitors can enjoy a coffee break or stroll around the lake, offering a stunning view over the town center and harbor. Adjacent to the picturesque harbor are tree-lined streets filled with shops, perfect for indulging in some serious shopping.

After departing Spinalonga Island, lunch will be collected from a local restaurant in Elounda, and the remaining time can be spent exploring or relaxing on the beach.
The next stop is Agios Nikolaos. At the heart of Agios Nikolaos lies Lake Voulismeni, likely formed by an earthquake. Here, visitors can enjoy a coffee break or take a stroll around the lake, offering a stunning view from above of the town center and harbor of Agios Nikolaos. Please note that official guided tours are available on Tuesdays and Fridays. Daily, there will be escort guiding, and on Spinalonga Island, a map will be provided to help visitors explore all the significant monuments independently.
