After learning about local history, stop in the charming town of Pirongia for a quick coffee break. Continuing the journey, pass through Otorohanga, known as the “Kiwiana capital of New Zealand,” and experience all things Kiwi in this unique and delightful town.

Waitomo Glowworm Caves - Upon arrival at the first major attraction, be guided through the ancient and remarkable caves, observing various cave formations, including Stalactites, Stalagmites, and Lime Columns, before descending further underground for the Glowworm experience. Board a boat for a cruise on the grotto river with thousands of Glowworms sparkling above. Unique to New Zealand for over 120 years, Waitomo Glowworm Caves are a must-see for any traveler.

Waitomo Big Bird & Miniature Animal Petting Farm - On the way to the next destination, Hobbiton Movie Set, stop outside Big Bird to meet some friendly local animals. Although there is no time to enter the park, the friendly animals often come to the fences for photos, delighting guests.

Hobbiton Movie Set - Upon arrival at the second major attraction, Hobbiton, there is time to purchase lunch before boarding one of the big green Hobbiton buses. Embark on a two-hour fully guided tour of this incredible 12-acre movie set with a professional Hobbiton guide to ensure a fulfilling visit. During the tour, step into the lush pastures of the Shire, visit 44 hobbit holes, explore amazing gardens, hear secrets and stories about the making of the movies, and enjoy a complimentary cold beverage at the famous Hobbiton pub ‘The Green Dragon Inn’.

Tirau - Continuing the adventure, depart for Rotorua and pass through Tirau, famously known as the ‘Corrugated Iron Capital of the World’ due to its unique corrugated iron sculptures and buildings. This town always brings a smile, and the guides will point out all the main highlights along the way.

Rotorua - To conclude the formal part of the tour’s first day, arrive in Rotorua for a quick guided driving tour, seeing the most famous sites in Rotorua city, including Lake Rotorua, Rotorua Museum, Government Gardens, Whangapipiro (Rachel Spring), and the Blue Baths. If time permits, visit a special souvenir shop for discounted shopping and to try Manuka Honey. Guests are then dropped off at their hotels to check in for the night, but the day doesn’t have to end there. It’s recommended to add the optional Maori cultural evening experience and Traditional Hangi Buffet Dinner to enjoy the complete Rotorua experience.

Rotorua & Taupo

Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland - Day two begins with a bang, heading straight to Wai-O-Tapu to witness the eruption of the Lady Knox Geyser before experiencing a fully guided tour of Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal Wonderland. Considered one of the most surreal places on earth, visitors will see the famous Champagne Lake, Devil’s Bath, local mud-pools, geothermal craters, and other geothermal wonders. The colors and activity are breathtaking.

Taupo - The journey south continues towards Taupo, New Zealand’s largest lake, which is actually a giant volcanic crater responsible for one of the largest eruptions ever recorded. There is time to purchase lunch before receiving a Taupo highlights tour and learning interesting local facts.

Huka Falls - As the journey north begins again, stop at Huka Falls, one of New Zealand’s most popular and beautiful waterfalls.

Auckland - Unfortunately, the journey must continue north towards the tour’s endpoint, but the day is not over with a fully guided return trip to Auckland, featuring secret stops along the way.
