- Bibi-Heybat Mosque - The Bibi-Heybat Mosque, constructed between 1267 and 1300, is a remarkable structure known for its beauty and historical significance. It houses the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum, a descendant of Muhammad, and serves as a spiritual center for Muslims in the region. It is a significant monument of Islamic architecture in Azerbaijan, locally referred to as “the mosque of Fatima.” The current mosque structure, built in the 1990s, is a recreation of the original.
- Mud Volcanoes - Weather permitting, the tour will visit Azerbaijan’s famous mud volcanoes, known locally as “Yanardagh” (burning mountain), “gaynacha” (boiling water), and “bozdag” (grey mountain). Azerbaijan is home to 350 of the world’s 800 mud volcanoes, primarily located in the Gobustan region. Some are considered natural monuments and national resources. Due to road conditions, a special taxi will be used, and a Soviet SUV Lada will be provided to reach the volcanoes, offering a close-up view of these fascinating natural phenomena.
- Gobustan Rock Art - The tour includes a visit to the Gobustan local indoor and open-air museum, showcasing unique exhibits spanning millennia. The Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape features over 6,000 rock engravings, reflecting 40,000 years of rock art. The site includes remains of caves, settlements, and burials, illustrating human activity from the Upper Paleolithic to the Middle Ages. Gobustan is valued for its rock art’s quality and density, providing substantial evidence of prehistoric hunting, fauna, flora, and lifestyles, as well as cultural continuity into medieval times.
- Absheron Region - Lunch will be enjoyed at a traditional restaurant. Please note that lunch is not included in the tour price.
- Yanardag State Historical, Cultural and Natural Reserve - Located 23km north of Baku’s Old Town, Yanardag is famous for its continuously burning hill. Natural gas leaks from the rocks due to tectonic shifts and volcanic material beneath the surface. Marco Polo mentioned these flames during his travels, and they have likely burned for many years. Declared a historical, cultural, and natural reserve in 2007, Yanardag offers an unforgettable experience of Azerbaijan’s “Land of Lights.”
- Ateshgah - Fire Temple - The journey continues to the Ateshgah Fire Temple, a historic site for Zoroastrians and fire-worshippers. This temple is rich with stories of pilgrims and merchants drawn by its eternal flames and mystical energy.
- Gosha Gala Tower - The tour concludes with a return to the starting point.
