Hanoi – Lang Son - Homestay Overnight (Lunch, Dinner)
Chi Lăng - The tour guide will pick up guests from their hotel in Hanoi’s old quarter between 7:30 and 8:00 am, and transfer them to Lang Son. The journey begins with a drive towards the Chinese border, lasting approximately 3 hours, before pausing at Chi Lang Pass, a 20km-long gorge formed by a narrow valley between two mountains.
This location holds significant importance in Vietnamese history, being the site of numerous victories against various Chinese invasions over the centuries, dating back to 981 AD. It is renowned as Vietnam’s strongest citadel and bastion. Visitors will have about an hour to explore the area around the Quy Mon Quan Gate, known as “The Gate of Monsters,” named for the many invading forces that passed through the pass only to be repelled by resilient Vietnamese defenders.
Mr. Kim’s Homestay - After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant in Dong Dang, the journey continues into the pass, with a stop to visit Mother’s Temple and Dong Khe – a significant historical site where The Battle of Dong Khe occurred during the First Indochina War. This was the first battle of the Indochina Wars, with fighting taking place in September and October 1950, culminating in a decisive victory for the Viet Minh. In the evening, guests will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a local homestay owned and operated by a local Nung family.
Ban Gioc Waterfall – Ba Be National Park (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Ban Gioc Waterfall - Detian Falls - After breakfast at the homestay, guests will depart for Trung Khanh, located on the border with China. Here, there is an opportunity to meet and interact with the local Nung people in the village of Phuoc Sen, a mountainous village renowned for its traditional blacksmithing. The farming tools crafted here are essential to the lifestyle, evident in the surrounding rice paddies and fields. Among these stunning landscapes is the breathtaking Ban Gioc Waterfall, spanning over 300 meters and shared between Vietnam and China. Visitors will have time to soak in the incredible atmosphere around the falls, offering a perfect chance for some fantastic photography.
Nguom Ngao Cave - After visiting the falls, the next stop is Nguom Ngao Cave, a different but equally impressive natural wonder. The cave extends for 2,144 meters underground and is filled with remarkable stalactites and stalagmites.
Ba Be - Guests will then return to Cao Bang town and travel down the “snake pass” to Ba Be Lake, where they will stay overnight in a homestay built in traditional Tay style and owned and operated by a local Tay family. Here, guests can relax and unwind from the day and enjoy a delicious and authentic home-cooked meal.
Ba Be Lake - Hanoi (Breakfast, Lunch)
Ba Be National Park - After breakfast, guests will board a boat to cross the lake to the north shore. From there, they will embark on a hike in the rainforest of the central area of Ba Be National Park. Along the lake’s shores, they will reach a prehistoric cave dating back 500 million years, hidden in an ancient forest composed of rare and hardwood trees, as strong as steel. A little further, a fire station allows for bird watching.
The hike continues to the An Ma temple, a sacred temple of the Tay people venerating the snake god and military general of the Mac dynasty.
Guests can choose how to spend their time on the boat: relax and admire the landscape or take a dip in the fresh waters of the lake. Either way, they can enjoy the scenery with its beautiful karst formations lined with jungle.
Note: Visitors who prefer not to participate in the walk can opt to stay on the boat to visit Widow Island or do some shopping.
Old Quarter - Return to Ba Be Jungle Houses restaurant for lunch before concluding the tour. Guests will be taken approximately 230 km back to Hanoi, with a stop at a tea plantation nestled among rolling hills. Upon arrival in Hanoi, it’s time to say goodbye, leaving with cherished memories and lasting connections.
