Amazing Ichkabal and Lagoon! - I booked this tour just 24 hours in advance, without knowning that on that day no boat tours were happening as it was water day to allow the lagoon to rest. However Roberto from the tour company was kind enough to still run the tour of Ichkabal on the same day, and rearrange the boat tour for the morning after, including the pick up from the hotel twice! Ichkabal was a magical site, still very unspoiled and only recently open to the public. There are still many escavations to do, however I really loved to see many parts of the sites still covered by trees with only a part of the the two pyramid uncovered: it gave a taste of how it was when it was discovered and it would be interesting to go back in 20 years and see all the progress they have made. There were only very few tourists, therefore we almost had the site all for ourselves! If you love history and can use your imagination, you must see this place, which is very authentic and gives a different prospective from the most famous sites such as Chichen Itza or Tulum. Our guide, Ray, was amazing, very knowledgeable and entertaining. He also gave us a souvenir, drink and snack at the end of the tour. Regarding the boat ride, I was a bit confused when a taxi came to pick me up, which was fine just I wasn't expecting it and I wasn't sure if it was for me. The driver kept asking me to confirm the drop off location but I didn't know which one it was. Again, not a big deal. The boat ride was beautiful, I really enjoyed it. It was only in Spanish though, no English was available even though the tour listing said that the tour was available in English as well. Fortunately, being Italian, I can understand Spanish, so I had no issues, however if I couldn't understand Spanish I would have struggled. Also consider that Bacalar is not a major touristic area such as Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Merida, therefore I found things to be slightly less organised in general, which made Bacalar very special and authentic. In any case, Roberto communicated with me via WhatsApp and answered all the questions I had. I totally recommend this beautiful tour, just I would suggest to ask any questions to Roberto directly just to make sure everthing about the logistics is clear.
