Lake Tana - A brief flight north to Bahir Dar will have our representative guide and driver meet you at the Bahir Dar airport and transfer you to your hotel. Bahir Dar is a charming city situated on the banks of Lake Tana, the largest lake in Ethiopia. As you will spend the entire day at the lake, it is advisable to pack some food. Our guide will assist you in finding a good restaurant.
Explore Tana and its islands by boat. Lake Tana has 37 islands, 20 of which house churches and monasteries of significant historical and cultural interest. We will visit the monastery churches of Ura Kidane Mihiret and Azwa Mariam. Ura Kidane Mihiret is the most renowned of the monasteries and boasts an important collection of religious icons from the 16th to 18th centuries A.D. Azwa Mariam is famous for its paintings. Around 4:00 PM, you will return to the city. Overnight stay in Bahir Dar.
Drive to Blue Nile Waterfall and City Tour
Blue Nile Falls - After breakfast, drive to the Blue Nile Falls, locally known as Tissisat (smoking water), where the water cascades 45 meters (148 feet), creating steam clouds and rainbows. We will descend to the base of the falls for a close-up view and then ascend the other side. The round trip will take about 1 hour of walking. We will then cross the Blue Nile by boat to return to the starting point. You can have lunch in Bahir Dar after the trip and relax at the hotel for a while before driving to the viewpoint at Haile Selassie’s palace. Overnight stay in Bahir Dar. According to your flight schedule, we will drop you off at Bahir Dar airport to catch your flight to Addis Ababa.
