- Baku Old City - Icheri Sheher (Old City) - At the heart of Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage, this historic center of Baku has a history spanning thousands of years. It was the capital of the ancient state of the Shirvanshahs and a symbol of Azerbaijani statehood. Known as the ‘Acropolis of Baku,’ Old City or Icherisheher, this unique historic ensemble includes the Shirvanshah Palace, Synyk Kala minaret, Maiden Tower, “Bayil Stones,” Seyid Yahya Bakuvi mausoleum, caravanserais like the Multani and Bukharian caravanserai, Mollahana, numerous mosques such as Muhammad ibn Abu-Bakr, Akmad, Molla Ahmad, Juma, Lezgi, mosque-madrassahs, bath-houses, Baku Khans’ House, and many opulent residences from the 19th century.
- Palace of the Shirvanshahs - Shirvanshahs’ Palace - This UNESCO World Heritage Site in Baku was once the residence of the Shirvanshahs, who ruled most of present-day Azerbaijan from the 9th to the 16th centuries. Built between the 12th and 14th centuries at the highest point of Icherisheher, the palace is a timeless example of medieval Islamic architecture and now serves as a contemporary museum.
- Maiden Tower - The Maiden Tower is so ancient that its original purpose remains a mystery. It might have been a Zoroastrian fire temple, an observatory, or a fortress. Perhaps it was a watchtower, as it offers breathtaking views across Baku and the Caspian Sea.
- Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center - Designed by the renowned architect Zaha Hadid, the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center is a masterpiece of modern architecture. Its design features no straight lines, resembling a wave that rises from the ground to the sky and back down, symbolizing an eternal cycle that connects the past and present, uniting people through shared ideas. The center frequently hosts international exhibitions.
- Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum - The Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum is a cornerstone of national culture, and its innovative rug-shaped architecture is a fitting tribute. Located on Baku Boulevard, the museum houses the world’s largest collection of Azerbaijani carpets, with 6,000 pieces showcasing the history, patterns, and philosophies of carpet weaving traditions. The museum’s 600 m2 lobby is ideal for receptions, while conference rooms on the first and third floors can accommodate 70 and 46 seated guests, respectively. The fully equipped exhibition hall is adorned with traditional carpets from all seven schools of Azerbaijani carpet weaving.
