The safari lasts for 2.5 hours. Established in 1974 as a tiger reserve under Project Tiger, Bandipur Wildlife Reserve was formerly a private hunting ground for the Maharaja of the Kingdom of Mysore. The park covers an area of 874 square kilometers (337 sq mi), safeguarding numerous endangered species of Indian wildlife, including Indian elephants, gaurs, tigers, sloth bears, muggers, Indian rock pythons, four-horned antelopes, jackals, and dholes.
