- Marble Canyon - Just beyond the continental divide, where the Rockies transition from Alberta to British Columbia, lies the hidden gem of Marble Canyon.
Here, visitors can enjoy an easy 1.3-kilometer out-and-back trail that crosses several bridges, offering breathtaking views across the canyon and down into the vibrant turquoise waters of Tokumm Creek below.
For those who appreciate learning while hiking, take a moment to admire how this small creek has carved through the creamy sedimentary rock over millennia to form the canyon. Otherwise, simply enjoy the stunning beauty.
- Spiral Tunnels - Experience a historical feat of engineering on the first stop of this action-packed and award-winning Radventures small group adventure.
The Spiral Tunnels consist of two large figure-eight tracks through the mountains, marking the site where a train tragically plunged into the lake, resulting in the loss of three workers.
You might catch a glimpse of a freight train passing through; if not, the scenic mountain range makes this brief stop worthwhile!
- Emerald Lake - The name “Emerald Lake” is self-explanatory.
If the lake’s color doesn’t captivate you, the surrounding scenery certainly will!
The President Range mountains encircle the lake, creating a natural amphitheater with towering peaks and forested banks.
As a guest on this small group tour, enjoy guaranteed and expedited access right to the lake’s shoreline.
Here, you will have 1.5 hours to explore the lakeside trails, rent a canoe, or simply relax under a tree and watch the world go by!
- Natural Bridge - Natural Bridge is a remarkable rock formation spanning the Kicking Horse River west of Field, where the slower-moving waters from the Field valley flats begin their descent through a canyon to join the Amiskwi River.
The Natural Bridge lookout offers visitors the chance to view the formation from various vantage points, with interpretive displays explaining the geological processes at work. The bridge is easily accessible by car, just 3km (1.9 miles) from Field on Emerald Lake Road.
Shaped by the erosive forces of rushing water over what was once a waterfall, the Natural Bridge is a powerful reminder of water’s influence in shaping the landscape. Softer rock beneath the Natural Bridge’s hard limestone band eroded more quickly, widening fissures in the rock until the water flow was diverted below the outcrop.
- Takakkaw Falls - Standing at 1,224 feet, Takakkaw Falls is the tallest waterfall in the Canadian Rockies and the second tallest in Canada.
As snow and ice melt in early summer, they fuel the cascading water, creating picturesque mist through the pines. With some luck, you might see a rainbow or two at its base.
It’s no surprise that the waterfall’s name is derived from the Cree word for “wonderful,” complementing the national park’s name, Yoho, which is the Cree expression of awe and amazement, akin to “wow.”
- Yoho National Park - Yoho National Park may be one of the smaller parks in the Canadian Rockies, but it certainly packs a punch!
Located a bit further up the road from the bustling Lake Louise and Banff National Park, Yoho National Park offers an intimate feel, despite being filled with immense, snow-capped mountains and thundering waterfalls!
This beautiful region is a paradise for explorers seeking to escape the ordinary, and it should be on everyone’s Rockies bucket list.
On this tour, the fun and knowledgeable Radventures guide will determine the best times to visit each location, in no particular order, based on weather conditions, big bus tour schedules, and other local factors to ensure that guests receive the best and most authentic experience.
