Bangkok to Siem Reap by Land (Poipet Border Crossing)

Bangkok - Begin the day with a 7 am hotel pick-up by the driver, heading to the Cambodian border. The drive takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, with the entire journey from Bangkok to Siem Reap lasting about 8 hours, including the border crossing. Travel time may extend during weekends or public holidays.

If opting for a flight instead of the overland route from Bangkok to Siem Reap, please inform us. We can assist with flight bookings for an additional fee and arrange complimentary airport pick-up in Siem Reap. A refund of $60 per person is available if the flight option is chosen.

Poipet - Upon reaching the border, a staff member will guide you to the Thai immigration entrance. You will handle immigration procedures independently on both sides before meeting another driver on the Cambodian side.

Poipet, a Cambodian border town, serves as a key gateway for travelers and trade between Cambodia and Thailand, connecting with the Thai town of Aranyaprathet. The Poipet-Aranyaprathet border crossing is one of the busiest land checkpoints between the two countries, frequented by tourists, expatriates, and locals for travel and trade.

Travelers crossing from Thailand to Cambodia can obtain a visa on arrival at Poipet. Ensure you have passport-sized photos and the necessary fee for the visa process. Your passport should be valid for at least six months from the entry date and have blank pages for visa stamps.

Siem Reap Province - Exit Thailand at Aranyaprathet and enter Cambodia at the Poipet International border. After independently completing Thai and Cambodian immigration, meet another driver at the Cambodia Immigration exit gate with your name tag. Upon entering Poipet, continue the journey for approximately 152 km to Siem Reap, passing through small villages and countryside with a friendly Cambodian driver. Check in at your accommodation and stay overnight. (Enjoy Pub Street tonight if not too tired, or opt for a buffet dinner with a traditional show for an additional charge).

Angkor Wat - Start the day early at 04:50 AM to witness the stunning sunrise at Angkor Wat temple. After this captivating experience, further explore the Angkor Wat complex. Return to the hotel for a hearty breakfast before continuing the excursion to explore the UNESCO World Heritage site of the ancient Angkor city.

Angkor Thom - Angkor Thom, the capital city of the Khmer Empire, is a remarkable testament to extraordinary genius. Built in the 12th century under the reign of the greatest Khmer King Jayavarman VII, it is surrounded by a wall 3 kilometers on each side with five large gates.

Angkor Thom South Gate - Known as the South Gate of Angkor Thom, it is the main entrance to Angkor Thom City. Built in the late 12th century in Bayon style, it is the most famous and best-preserved of the major city gates from Angkor Wat Temple and is a popular spot for visitors to take pictures before entering the city.

Bayon Temple - Constructed nearly 100 years after Angkor Wat, Bayon Temple is located at the center of a royal city. It likely began as a temple-mountain symbolizing a microcosm of Mount Meru. The Bayon of today belongs to the third and last phase of the art style. The Smiling Face, the architectural scale, and composition of the Bayon exude grandeur in every aspect. Its elements juxtapose to create balance and harmony, with over 200 large faces carved on the 54 towers giving this temple its majestic character. It is generally accepted that the four faces on each tower are images of the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, signifying the king’s omnipresence. The faces’ characteristics—a broad forehead, downcast eyes, wide nostrils, and thick lips that curl upwards slightly at the ends—combine to reflect the famous Smile of Angkor.

Baphuon Temple - Baphuon stands on a rectangular sandstone base with five levels of approximately the same size, rather than the more common form of successively smaller levels. The first, second, and third levels are surrounded by sandstone galleries. Baphuon is the first structure in which stone galleries with a central tower appear. Two libraries in the shape of a cross with four porches stand in the courtyard, originally connected by an elevated walkway supported by columns.

Phimeanakas - Phimeanakas temple is situated near the center of the area enclosed by the walls of the Royal Palace. It must originally have been crowned with a golden pinnacle, as Zhou Daguan described it as the Tower of Gold. The temple is built of roughly hewn sandstone blocks and has little decoration.

Terrace of the Elephants - The elephants are ridden by servants and princes, treading as quietly as if on an excursive promenade. The steps of even length respect no obstacle. The forest they travel through is impenetrable to all but tiny creatures, able to squeeze through the undergrowth’s fissures, and to the largest animals, which create chasms for their passage in the virgin vegetation.

Terrace of the Leper King - The Terrace of the Leper King continues the grandeur theme characterizing buildings during Jayavarman VII’s reign. It is faced with dramatic bas-reliefs on both the interior and exterior. During clearing, the EFEO found a second wall with bas-reliefs similar in composition to those of the outer wall. Some archaeologists believe this second wall is evidence of late rites, two meters wide of laterite faced with sandstone. It collapsed, and a second wall of the same materials, two meters wide, was built right in front of it without clearing the rubble. Recently, the EFEO created a false corridor allowing visitors to inspect the relief on the first wall.

Ta Nei Temple - Ta Nei Temple is a small temple located deep in the Cambodian jungle, about 200 meters west of the East Baray. It can be difficult to find and is not a popular tourist destination. Due to the temple’s obscurity, a visit to Ta Nei can be quite rewarding for the adventurous traveler. The few wanderers who visit Ta Nei are not hassled by peddlers or interrupted by excited travelers’ voices. The temple rewards them with the same charm that affected the early Angkor explorers. Ta Nei was built late in the 12th century. King Jayavarman VII is responsible for the temple’s design and construction, dedicating the stone monument to Buddhism’s principles.

Ta Prohm Temple - Ta Prohm is the undisputed capital of the kingdom of the Trees. It has been left untouched by archaeologists except for clearing a path for visitors and structural strengthening to prevent further deterioration. Due to its natural state, it is possible to experience at this temple the wonder of the early explorers when they discovered these monuments in the mid-19th century. Shrouded in dense jungle, the temple of Ta Prohm is ethereal in aspect and conjures a romantic aura. Fig, banyan, and kapok trees spread their gigantic roots over stones, probing walls and terraces apart, as their branches and leaves intertwine to form a roof over the structures. Trunks of trees twist among stone pillars. The strange, haunted charm of the place entwines itself about you as you go, as inescapably as the roots have wound themselves about the walls and towers.

Tonle Sap Lake & Kampong Phluk Village Half-Day Tours & Cambodian Circus

Bakong - Rolous Market: After breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up from your Siem Reap hotel to visit Kampong Village and Tonle Sap Lake, with a stop at Rolous Market along the way.
Roluos Market, also known as Phsar Roluos, is a vibrant and bustling local market situated in a small village of Siem Reap. Kampong Phluk Floating Village - Continue to the fishermen’s village of Kompong Phluk on Tonle Sap Lake. During the dry season (February to August), the village can be reached by car or motorbike, but from September, hop in a traditional wooden boat to Kompong Phluk. Visit the village with its houses on stilts, the pagoda, and observe the villagers’ activities before taking a traditional boat on the big Tonle Sap Lake.

Tonle Sap Lake - The boat will also take you to the open water of Tonle Sap Lake, located in the heart of Cambodia. It is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and one of the most unique and significant ecosystems in the region. Its ecological and cultural importance cannot be overstated, making it a must-visit destination for travelers to Cambodia.

Tonle Sap Lake is renowned for its dramatic seasonal variations. During the dry season (November to May), the lake shrinks significantly, covering an area of about 2,700 square kilometers. In the wet season (June to October), it expands to cover approximately 16,000 square kilometers, with depths increasing from around 1 meter to over 9 meters.

The lake is a UNESCO-designated Biosphere Reserve, home to an incredible diversity of wildlife. It supports over 300 species of fish, numerous bird species (including endangered ones like the greater adjutant stork and the spot-billed pelican), as well as reptiles, mammals, and amphibians.
