- Wat Phra Chetuphon - Commonly known as Wat Pho, the official name is Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan. It is a first-class royal monastery and was the most significant during the reign of King Rama I of the Chakri Dynasty. This significance stems from the King’s efforts in restoring Wat Phodharam, an ancient monastery from the Ayudhya period, reestablishing it as a royal monastery near the Grand Palace. Some ashes of King Rama I are preserved beneath the pedestal of the principal Buddha image, Phra Buddha DevaPatimakorn, in the main chapel. Wat Pho is a key landmark in the Ko Rattanakosin area, where visitors can admire exquisite Buddhist art and the enduring Thai wisdom passed down through generations, regarded as timeless knowledge. The temple is home to the gold-leaf covered Reclining Buddha, which is 46 meters long, and is also recognized as the birthplace of traditional Thai massage.

In his book ‘The Ubosot of Wat Pho’, renowned Thai artist Chakrabhand Posayakrit expressed on October 10, 1999, “Wat Pho’s fine arts are a treasure trove of knowledge. These invaluable resources have the potential to ignite and amplify young people’s aspiration to achieve artistic merit and recognition.”
