In addition to the medieval charm of its streets and squares, you will also find examples of Gothic and Romanesque churches, chapels, and civilian architecture.

The fortress’s geographical location, atop the mountain, perfectly aligns with its historical role in defending access to the salt mines. The structure also offers a privileged view of the Cardener River Valley. From the 11th to the 15th century, the castle served as the residence of some of the country’s most noble lineages of lords. As a defensive structure for the salt mines, the castle withstood several sieges throughout its history.
