Hotel pickups are scheduled between 8:00 and 8:30 AM (approximately 30 minutes), followed by a 90-minute drive to our first destination.
- L’Eixample District - As we leave the city, we pass through this renowned area, known for its landmarks and stunning architecture.
- Besalu - Arriving at 10:00 AM, we reach Besalú, a protected National Historic Monument. We’ll start with a historical introduction and take in the breathtaking views of the old city before crossing the iconic 11th-century medieval bridge.
Next, we’ll embark on a walking tour through the old town, exploring the narrow alleys and centuries-old architecture, highlighting the main attractions. It will feel like stepping back in time 1,000 years! Afterwards, enjoy some free time to explore independently.
We’ll provide a comprehensive overview of the history of Catalonia (and Spain), laying a solid foundation for the day. Our visit to Besalú is a fantastic way to start. (The next drive will take approximately 1 hour.)
- Rupit - At 1:00 PM, we arrive in Rupit, a medieval stone village nestled in the forest and built into the rock. Its cobblestone streets are captivating. To enter the town, we’ll cross the famous ‘hanging’ bridge. Once inside, it feels like a fairytale.
Upon arrival, we’ll have a brief guided walking tour, highlighting key points of interest and suggesting dining options. Lunch is at your leisure (at your own expense). This is a chance to savor authentic Catalonian cuisine, which is often hard to find even in Barcelona. The area also offers beautiful hiking trails and stunning nature, plus more time to explore the town.
- Los Riscos de Tavertet - En route to the next town, we’ll make an additional stop (weather permitting) to delve deeper into the Guilleries Nature Reserve and enjoy the breathtaking views from the top of Tavertet’s impressive sandstone cliffs, overlooking the plains of Catalunya. It’s one of the most spectacular viewpoints in Catalunya! We’ll capture memorable photos, enjoy the tranquility, and breathe in the fresh mountain air before continuing. The next town is just around the corner!
- Tavertet - At 4:00 PM, we arrive at our final village, a serene and secluded old shepherd’s town. Here, we’ll visit the local 1,000-year-old Romanesque church, take a stroll through the village, and end at another stunning viewpoint. We’ll conclude with these views before heading back to Barcelona. (The return drive is slightly longer than the morning, taking a different route to showcase as much of Catalunya as possible.)
- Barcelona - At approximately 6:30 PM, after a 1.5-hour drive, we’ll return to Barcelona. We’ll drop you off at your accommodation, concluding the tour.
