This wooden carving, affectionately known as La Moreneta, is preserved today in the monastery church. Its distinctive dark color is due to the oxidation of the varnish over time.

Montserrat is also a significant center of spirituality. A community of about 80 Benedictine monks currently resides in the monastery, adhering to the Rule of Saint Benedict. Besides the main monastic complex, the mountain hosts numerous churches and hermitages, some now abandoned, enhancing the mystical aura of the place.
