- Barcelona - Discover the historic heart of Barcelona on a comfortable e-bike, cycling through major attractions for breathtaking views of the city and coastline. Visit the Sagrada Familia to glimpse Gaudí’s unfinished masterpiece, and explore Paseo de Gracia, showcasing some of the finest modernist buildings by Gaudí and his contemporaries, including La Pedrera, Casa Batlló, Casa Lleo Morera, and Casa Amatlier.
Explore the former fishing village of Barceloneta and admire the surreal sculpture by American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein in El Cap de Barcelona. Venture off the typical tourist path to uncover delightful surprises along the way.
- El Ciclo - This is where you will meet your guide and collect your bikes. The tour begins just outside Royal Square, where the master’s first work in Barcelona, the lanterns, is located. These are crafted in the spirit of Roman mythology and sparked a significant scandal in Barcelona!
- Placa Reial - One of Barcelona’s most beautiful squares, located steps from the Ramblas in the Gothic Quarter’s center, is Plaza Real, named in honor of the Catholic Monarchs Isabella and Ferdinand, and it visually lives up to its name.
- Placa de Sant Jaume - Next is Placa de Sant Jaume, currently home to several city administrative buildings, including the governor’s house. This square in Barcelona’s historic center was named after a medieval church once located here (destroyed in 1823).
This square was the site of many significant events in medieval Barcelona, including the onset of the plague epidemic that nearly devastated the city in the Middle Ages.
- La Barceloneta - Then, head to La Barceloneta beach, now considered exemplary. It has received the prestigious Blue Flag award for its clean coastline. Barceloneta is the city’s oldest public beach, gaining popularity among locals and tourists over the decades. It is a fascinating tourist attraction and ranks among the world’s top beaches.
- Playa de La Barceloneta - Barceloneta is Barcelona’s oldest, most popular, and most entertaining beach.
- Arco de Triunfo de Barcelona - Next, visit the triumphal arch, located at the intersection of Pase de Luis Companus and Pase de San Juan boulevards in Barcelona.
Unlike similar art masterpieces in Paris and Moscow, the Spanish L’Arc de Triomf is entirely made of red brick. It was designed by the renowned modernist architect Jusep Vilasek Casanovas. The Arc de Triomphe’s opening in Barcelona coincided with one of Spain’s major historical events - the 1988 World Exhibition.
The arch, designed by architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas, is constructed from red brick in the neo-Moorish style, popular at the time. The Arc de Triomphe is adorned with Spain’s coats of arms at the top and the various provinces’ coats of arms along the entire arc on each facade.
The Arc de Triomphe of Barcelona is just one and a half kilometers from Plaza Catalunya and Sagrada Familia, our next destination.
- Basilica de la Sagrada Familia - The Sagrada Familia is a truly unique architectural marvel, bridging generations and epochs, offering an exceptional opportunity to not only touch history but also participate in its creation. For a century and a half, the structure has been built, evolving and transforming.
- Passeig de Gracia - Paseo de Gracia is Barcelona’s main street, home to the vibrant architectural masterpieces of the early 20th century - Casa Mila, Casa Morera, Casa Batllo, etc. Familiarity with these will enhance your understanding of Spain and its culture. Passeig de Gracia also features numerous fashion boutiques and shopping centers.
-
Casa Mila - La Pedrera - Next, visit La Pedrera. Due to its whimsical appearance, this house was nicknamed the Quarry by locals, referring to its uneven and massive façade. It represents the pinnacle of Gaudi’s engineering, where the architect realized his wildest dreams of future architecture.
Initially, locals were not very complimentary about Gaudí’s new creation. Now, Casa Mila is a universally recognized architectural masterpiece, and no visit to Spain is complete without a photo in front of it. -
Casa Batllo - Casa Batlló is the second great building on Passeig de Gràcia by Antoni Gaudí. From the outside, the facade of Casa Batlló resembles skulls and bones. The “skulls” are actually balconies, and the “bones” are pillars.
Gaudí drew inspiration from the colors and forms of marine life for this building. Casa Batlló is perhaps the most unusual house in Barcelona. Its whimsical balconies resemble skulls, columns like bones, and the façade itself resembles a giant dragon. Inside, there is not a single right angle, and the entire interior, created by Gaudí, resembles a science fiction film set. - Las Ramblas - Finally, visit La Rambla. Although it appears to be a single street, it actually consists of five parts, each with a unique name. Recently, a sixth part of the Rambla has emerged - a pedestrian bridge built for the 1992 Olympics. It starts from Portal de la Pau and leads to the popular Maremagnum shopping mall.
La Rambla is an iconic location in Barcelona, where the local bohemian spirit mingles with modern youth and admiring tourists. The best architectural styles coexist with fashion couturier shops and top coffee shops. It’s hard to find a traveler who hasn’t visited La Rambla when in Barcelona. For many years, it has been the city’s favorite pedestrian street, and a walk along it has become a must-do ritual.
