• Port Olimpic - Located opposite the Vila Olímpica neighborhood, this marina was constructed in 1990 as part of the area’s redevelopment in Barcelona. Designed by architects Oriol Bohigas, Josep Martorell, David Mackay, and Albert Puigdomènech, the marina was built to meet high standards and hosted the sailing events during the 1992 Olympic Games. It features 756 berths for yachts, and its entrance is visible from various points in Barcelona.

Flanking the marina are two skyscrapers: the Mapfre Tower and the Hotel Arts, with Frank Gehry’s stunning goldfish sculpture at its base. Nearby is the Gran Casino de Barcelona. In 1992, Olympic Barcelona was revitalizing its coastline with the new Olympic Marina, marked by twin towers. The Mapfre Tower stood on one side, and the Hotel Arts on the other, with Gehry’s fish sculpture at the hotel’s base. The sculpture measures 56 meters in length and 35 meters in height, seemingly poised to leap into the Mediterranean’s blue waters.

• Port Vell (Old Port) - Port Vell, meaning “Old Harbor” in English, is a waterfront harbor in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, and part of the Port of Barcelona. It was developed as part of an urban renewal initiative before the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Previously, it was a neglected area with empty warehouses, rail yards, and factories. Today, it attracts 16 million visitors annually.

Now a city highlight and tourist attraction, Port Vell features the Maremàgnum, a mall with shops, a multiplex cinema, bars, and restaurants, as well as the IMAX Port Vell and Europe’s largest aquarium, housing 8,000 fish and 11 sharks in 22 tanks filled with six million liters (1.6 million US gallons) of seawater. The pedestrian walkway, Rambla de Mar, connects La Rambla to Port Vell and includes a swing bridge to allow ships to enter and exit the harbor.
