- Batu Caves - Batu Caves is a renowned and popular tourist destination in Selangor.
Home to a Hindu temple and shrine, Batu Caves draws thousands of worshippers and tourists, particularly during the annual Hindu festival, Thaipusam.
Situated just north of Kuala Lumpur, this limestone outcrop features three main caves with temples and Hindu shrines. Its main highlight is the large statue of the Hindu God at the entrance, along with a steep 272-step climb to enjoy the breathtaking view of the city skyline.
Monkeys play around the caves, making it a favored spot for rock climbing enthusiasts. The Ramayana Cave also showcases paintings and scenes of Hindu Gods.
- Sri Shakti Temple - Sri Shakti Temple is unique as the only temple worldwide where all 51 Shaktis are represented. Within this space are 96 intricately carved pillars depicting the 96 universal principles of Hinduism. Surrounded by a grand decorative wall, entry to the temple is through a magnificent Raja Gopuram (multi-tiered tower). Standing at 74 feet, the 5-tiered Raja Gopuram proudly displays the architectural wonders within.
The temple’s main entrance features 18-foot high sculptured granite frames weighing up to 4 tonnes, crafted by skilled artisans from the ancient city of Mahabalipuram in Tamilnadu, India.
- Altingsburg Lighthouse - Located at the highest point of Bukit Melawati, the lighthouse offers visitors panoramic views of the Straits of Malacca. Built in 1907, it has served navigation purposes since 1910. Its strategic location also made it a monitoring point for the Strait of Malacca. Named after a Dutch General, it was extensively used during the British colonial period.
- Bukit Melawati - This historic fort was built in the late 18th century during the reign of the second Sultan of Selangor. It later succumbed to Dutch cannons. The site retains its original foundation stones, cannons, and a legendary execution block. Visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the coastline from the hill.
The Hill of Melawati is also home to Silver-Leafed Monkeys and Long-Tailed Macaques. Peanuts can be purchased from vendors in the area to feed the monkeys. While Silver-Leafed Monkeys are generally gentle, visitors should be cautious with Long-Tailed Macaques as they can be quite mischievous. Exercise caution when feeding them as they are wild animals and can be dangerous if provoked.
- Kampung Kuantan Firefly Park - Kuala Selangor is a quaint coastal village northwest of Kuala Lumpur. The village is famous for its attraction along the Selangor River. Here, you can witness the renowned fireflies (Kelip-Kelip in Bahasa Melayu) during the evenings/nights. These fireflies are found on the mangrove tree species called berembang. It is said to be one of the largest firefly colonies in the world.
Fireflies, also known as ‘Lightning Bugs,’ shine brightly at night to attract a mate. They can shine during the day too, but it is not visible to humans. They are only seen at night in and along the ‘Berembang’ trees along the Selangor River. They are not found in palm trees or any other trees. Often, their flashing becomes synchronized, creating an effect similar to the twinkling lights of a Christmas tree. A night trip along the riverbanks of the Selangor River is truly magnificent and a must-see attraction.
There are several delightful restaurants serving fresh seafood. Restoran Kuala Selangor offers a wonderful local meal at Pasir Penambang (1A, Jalan Bagan Sungei Yu). Visitors can stay overnight in the village of Kuala Selangor or at the chalets at Kuala Selangor Firefly Park.
