Vegetarians can pig out too on local food tour, minus the pig. - Our tour was very organized, we were picked up at our hotel and delivered back. In between we walked from place to place eating local delicious food. My friend and I are vegetarian and we had a great time with so much food we took it back to our hotel room. I imagine each tour is different , tasting different things but this was fun and we got to try so many things. Barbecued tofu skewers were the best! I was really stuffed so go with an absolutely empty stomach, I did. I landed in Beijing that morning from Los Angeles , it’s a great activity to prevent you from taking a nap and being jet lagged, just hit the streets running.

We had a great afternoon... - We had a great afternoon discovering different Chinese dishes with Anson. The food on the tour was really great. Anson also explained a lot and answered all of our questions.

Jay was the best private tour guide we’ve ever had! - He took his time with my family and answered every question we had with patience and detail. We were truly impressed with how knowledgeable and passionate he was. This private food tour in Beijing exceeded our expectations—Jay went above and beyond to educate us on Chinese food staples and culture. We left not only full but with a much deeper appreciation for the cuisine. Highly recommended!

A delicious way to spend your afternoon! - Anson was our marvelous guide. As were all the choices to eat. Between the amazing soup and hand-pulled noodles, the grilled chicken, lamb and outstanding chicken wing, don't get me started on the yogurt...nothing you've had before. I could live every day in that first restaurant. The other places were excellent to try, I can't recall them all and we finished w/soup dumplings. After that we went to the lake and wandered around - just beautiful. Full of people posing and families having fun. Lots of little shops. Learned the history of specific ancient buildings from centuries ago. Just a lovely afternoon and recommend everyone to take advantage of it.

Best tour to see and taste Beijing through the eyes of a local! - This food tour was a fantastic way to taste the local cuisine while also learning about the city and culture and I'd recommend it to anyone I know traveling to Beijing in a heartbeat! Our tour guide, Miko, was fantastic... he communicated well, made us feel like friends, and answered all our questions along the way. The food was delicious and we were definitely stuffed by the end of the tour (although the pacing of the meals and food was perfect because you take walks between stops).
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Our tour guide (Miko) was on time and the tour started right away after some introductions
- We stopped at all local, non-touristy places and had the chance to eat dishes we probably wouldn’t have ordered ourselves like pig intestine (delicious!)
- Our tour guide (Miko) demonstrated the customary way to eat each dish
- Historical facts about Beijing and the local culture were shared as we passed through different areas and while we ate
- Opportunities to use the restroom throughout
- Accommodations were made for non-drinkers
- Never felt rushed eating at any of the stops
- Tour guide (Miko) was easy to talk to and took our picture at every stop (which we would have forgotten to do)
I've done a lot of food tours but this was my first private one with just us and our guide instead of a group… it’s definitely a more intimate experience and gives you the chance to ask as many questions as you want. I highly recommend scheduling this food tours as soon as you arrive in Beijing so you know what food items you want to get more of when you’re in the city and you have a better understanding of the history as well.
