Day 1: Beijing - Datong - Yungang Grottoes - Nine-Dragon Screen (L)

Tiananmen Square (Tiananmen Guangchang) - The driver will collect guests from their hotel in Beijing at 7:00 am, heading straight to Datong city, a journey of approximately 4-5 hours. Enjoy the picturesque countryside views along the way. Upon arrival in Datong, a local guide will warmly welcome guests.

Upon reaching Datong, meet the friendly tour guide and savor a delightful lunch at a local restaurant.

Yungang Grottoes - In the afternoon, the first stop is the Yungang Grottoes, recognized as a World Cultural Heritage Site since 2001.

Nine Dragon Screen - Next, visit the Nine-Dragon Screen, originally constructed for Prince Hongwu. It stands as the oldest and largest glazed screen in China.

Afterwards, guests will be transferred to their accommodation in Datong (please ensure accommodation in Datong is booked in advance).

Datong - Hanging Monastery - Wooden Pagoda - Beijing (L)

Hengshan Hanging Temple (Xuankong si) - The tour guide and driver will pick guests up from their hotel in the morning, heading directly to the Hanging Temple, approximately a 1.5-hour drive. Enjoy the countryside views during the drive, with the tour guide sharing historical insights and stories. The Hanging Temple is a remarkable example of wooden architecture in China, uniquely dedicated to Sakyamuni, Laozi, and Confucius, the founders of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, respectively.

Ying Xian Wooden Pagoda - Lunch will be enjoyed at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, the journey continues to Yinxian County to visit the renowned Wooden Pagoda. Constructed in 1056 during the Liao Dynasty, it is one of the world’s oldest wooden structures. Remarkably, no nails were used in the construction of the nine-story, 67-meter-high building, which has withstood seven major earthquakes.

After the tour concludes, the driver will transport guests back to Beijing city, a journey of approximately 4 to 5 hours.

Note: A Chinese-speaking driver may accompany guests from Beijing to Datong and back, while a local English-speaking tour guide will assist in exploring the sites over the two days.
