• Jingshan Park (Jingshan Gongyuan) - Meet the guide in the hotel lobby at a time of your choosing and start by ascending Jingshan Hill in Jingshan Park, the highest point on Beijing’s central axis. This man-made hill was created from the soil excavated during the construction of the Forbidden City’s moat and was strategically placed according to Feng Shui principles to shield the imperial palace from the northern evil winds. Today, it is renowned for offering breathtaking panoramic views of the walled palace and downtown Beijing.
• Beihai Park (Beihai Gongyuan) - Proceed to Beihai Park, an imperial garden located northwest of the Forbidden City. Explore key attractions such as the White Dagoba, Nine Dragon Screen, and Tuancheng. Additionally, from April to November, enjoy a boat ride to see various ancient temples and small gardens, including the renowned Five Dragon Pavilion. For lunch, indulge in a delightful meal of imperial-style cuisine at the Beihai Fangshan Restaurant, a well-known venue since 1925.
• Back Lakes (Hou Hai) - In the afternoon, stroll through the hutongs around the Houhai area, one of Beijing’s two most popular pub streets. Appreciate the traditional architecture lining the picturesque lake. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, this area was home to many high-ranking officials and even princes.
• Yandai Xie Street - Continue walking to Yandaixie Street, one of Beijing’s oldest streets, named after a shop that sold large smoking pipes during the Qing dynasty. Today, it is a vibrant spot for locals and tourists, filled with shops, cafés, restaurants, local snacks, and bars, all housed in reconstructed Ming and Qing dynasty-era buildings.
• Bell and Drum Towers - Conclude the tour with a visit to the Bell and Drum Towers. Enter the Drum Tower to witness a traditional drum-beating ceremony, and ascend the Bell Tower for a panoramic view of the old Beijing neighborhood, where the ancient and modern blend seamlessly.
