- Tiananmen Square (Tiananmen Guangchang) - Located in the heart of Beijing, China, Tiananmen Square is named after the Tiananmen, or “Gate of Heavenly Peace,” which lies to its north, separating it from the Forbidden City. The square is home to the Monument to the People’s Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum of China, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. It was here that Mao Zedong declared the establishment of the People’s Republic of China on October 1, 1949.
- Forbidden City-The Palace Museum - Known as the Forbidden City or the Palace Museum, and referred to as Gu Gong in Chinese, this historic site is situated at the center of Beijing. It served as the imperial palace for 24 emperors during the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368 - 1911). Constructed over 14 years during Emperor Chengzu’s reign in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), it is the largest palace complex in the world, covering 74 hectares. Enclosed by a 52-meter-wide moat and a 10-meter-high wall, it features over 8,700 rooms, with a gate on each side.
- Temple of Heaven - Established in the early 15th century, the Temple of Heaven is a majestic complex of exquisite religious buildings set amidst gardens and historic pine woods. Its design and layout symbolize the connection between earth and heaven, representing the human world and the divine realm, a central theme in Chinese cosmology, highlighting the emperors’ unique role in this relationship.
- Summer Palace (Yiheyuan) - Situated in Beijing, the Summer Palace was initially constructed in 1750, suffered significant damage during the war of 1860, and was restored to its original design in 1886. It is a stunning example of Chinese landscape garden design, blending natural features like hills and open water with man-made structures such as pavilions, halls, palaces, temples, and bridges, creating a harmonious and aesthetically pleasing ensemble.
