Worth the Taxi Tour. - Gaol experience at the end.
I am giving five stars purely for the great "black" cab (more like a silver mini-bus) tour with Liam, who was engaging, knowledgeable, and a true gentleman from the start.
It was just me on the tour, so I sat up front with him as he went through stories about The Troubles and other stories from a complicated history in Northern Ireland.
What made this quite unique, is that Liam grew up, and still lives, in the very areas we were driving through. I had a church in mind to photograph just a stone's throw (no pun intended) from the Peace Wall, and as it happens, he was once an altar boy there! Absolutely incredible to hear his stories and know he truly did experience this in his own back yard. He was even tapping his horn as we passed by residents he knew a couple times!
Would definitely recommend a guide if you plan to visit these sites. Originally, I thought I might visit these sites on my own, but having insight and the convenience of a driver makes a huge difference.
I will say that my Gaol self-guided tour was only sub-par. Many of the interactive exhibits that played short films seemed to be broken. A couple of the early display rooms seemed to have a light off. I couldn't tell for sure if the darkness was intentional, but I don't think it was.
The walk is not too long, but feels a bit arbitrary. There is a fair amount to read, and some of the 'tech features' of the tour felt unnecessary. I used to work at a historic prison, so maybe I am biased. Maybe you will get more out of the guided tour.

- We did our tour with Liam, who went out of his way to make sure we got the most out of our tour. We asked him a tonne of questions and he was really accommodating, and waited patiently while we took in the murals. He also shared his lived experiences which were invaluable to us having a better insight into The Troubles. Highly recommend this, and thank you again Liam!

See the real Belfast - If you want to see the real Belfast and gain some understanding of the political history of Northern Ireland then this experience is a must. Our guide Danny was friendly and knowledgeable, and allowed us to ask plenty of questions.

Incredible Learning Experience - It was an incredible learning experience. Our driver/guide, Jerry, was eager to share his knowledge and answer our questions. We all thought he presented a fairly balanced picture of the "troubles" from both sides of the conflict. Highly recommend the combined taxi-jail package to get the full picture of the situation.

Danny L is the Man - Amazing day with Danny L. Thank you SO much. We learned so much. Confusing pick up point - go to the east side of the square and you’ll see all the black cabs lined up. Thanks so much, Daaaannnyy

Fantastictour with Isaac - Isaac was an awesome tour guide and was able to deliver and even, balanced account of the Troubles. He gave a very moving account of the many people who lost their lives in this conflict and was exceptionally attentive. I'd recommend any person go with Isaac.
The company was very communicative, though I do wish they'd told me they were using a newer version of the black cab, more like a black minivan. I would've preferred the smaller black cab.
However, in terms of tours, top-notch information, relevant and important sites, and interactive moment at the wall, and an awesome tour guide. Thanks Isaac! :)

Seeing the true Belfast - Our driver, Danny, was very kind and funny! He offered us to see the true Belfast and he did! He showed us a complete and emotional tour of what we thought was history. He took time to answer our questions and for us to take pictures and sign the wall. I recommend this experience to anyone who wants to learn and see more than a tourist attraction.
Pairing this with Crumlin Goal was a great experience too! The jail is very good for self-guided tours with many videos and explanations along the way.

Superbly informative thought provoking tour - This seemed expensive when booking this tour but was worth every penny.
John was our guide and he gave what we thought was a balanced view on the Troubles. His knowledge was great and he was able to answer all my questions and fill in all the gaps of my knowledge.
Nothing was rushed and it was moving to hear the stories behind this awful time in NI.
Sad that there is still a sectarian divide but blood runs deep and it’s easy to understand why it still remains although hopefully in time, the walls can come down and people can learn to learn be with each other peacefully.
One of the best tours that we have ever done, thank you John!
The gaol visit afterwards was good too but the black taxi mural tour was the best thing we did whilst here in Belfast.
