- Nohoch Che’en Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve - Visitors will travel comfortably in a modern, air-conditioned vehicle from the Belize District, enjoying the scenic highways with views of the Maya Mountains and the Belize Rainforest. The journey from Belize City to Nohoch Che’en Reserve takes about one hour.
On the way to San Ignacio town, there will be a stop at the Nohoch Che’en Reserve. This 19-mile network of caves is situated in the Caves Branch Valley of the Cayo District.
This introductory tour includes a 45-minute hike and a gentle float through the caves. With the help of a headlamp, participants will see cave fish and several stunning Maya paintings on the cave ceilings.
Upon arrival at the site, participants will gear up and hike for 45 minutes before entering one of the cave entrances that form the cave system. Using tubes, they will gently float downstream through the cave passages, observing and learning about the remarkable geological features of the cave and the nature of the Maya civilization.
After emerging from the cave, the float continues through the lush rainforest, concluding the tour back at the parking area. After changing into dry clothing, participants will enjoy fruits and refreshments before heading to town.
