Nohoch Che’en Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve - At this archaeological reserve, the guide will provide a few minutes for visitors to change into tubing gear or swimwear. Meanwhile, the guide will prepare the tubes and other equipment. The adventure begins with a 15-minute educational hike through lush rainforest trails, led by the guide. After the hike, visitors will reach the entrance of the “Mayan Underworld”; the cave. Feel free to take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear water with the guide before starting the journey!
Relax for the next hour and a half as the guide navigates through the cave, highlighting pristine crystals and other natural formations. Immerse yourself in ancient Mayan history and unique grandeur. Bring cameras to capture the beauty of the large “cenote” or sinkhole and waterfall within the cave system. Upon exiting the cave, float on the open river for at least 25 minutes before returning to the start/end point. -
Altun Ha - The ancient Mayan city of Altun Ha is one of Belize’s most renowned Mayan cities, internationally recognized for housing the largest piece of ‘jade’ carving ever found in the Mayan world. With evidence of settlement dating back to 200 B.C., it boasts two large plazas where rich tombs were discovered, indicating that the ruling elite had access to substantial exotic goods. Although no specific cause for the decline of Altun Ha has been identified, it is believed to have begun around 900 A.D.
Enjoy a serene guided tour filled with native flora and fauna such as toucans, parrots, iguanas, orchids, flowers, fruit trees, and numerous cedar and mahogany trees that provide a haven for various bird species. Restrooms, a museum, and local souvenir shops are available on-site.
