- Berat Castle - In the morning, the journey begins to Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With a history spanning over 2400 years, this town is among the most captivating in Albania. Founded in the 3rd century B.C. by an Illyrian tribe from central Albania, it was originally known as the fortified city of Antipatrea, complete with a protective castle. In 1417, the Ottomans occupied the town, constructing several mosques in the area below the ancient castle. Berat is nestled at the base of Tomorri Mountain and along the banks of the Osum River. Its white structures on a green slope with the river below create a breathtaking view upon approach.
- National Iconographic Museum Onufri - The visit includes the Castle and St. Mary’s Church, now the Onufri Museum, which boasts an impressive collection of icons and two other churches not open to the public. Onufri, the Albanian master painter of the 16th century, is the namesake of this museum. He is renowned for painting numerous church icons in Albania and Greece, particularly noted for his distinctive red color. Berat is also notable for the discovery of two of the oldest “New Testaments,” dating back to the 6th and 9th centuries AD.
- Mangalem - Following the visits and an optional lunch at the castle featuring homemade specialties, the tour proceeds to the historic district of Mangalem. Here, the King’s Mosque and Helveti Tekke, located side by side, are visited. These religious monuments of various faiths stand together, showcasing the religious tolerance of the Albanian people.
- Belsh - On the return journey, a stop is made at Belsh Town, situated on the shore of a small natural lake. The town lies in the Dumrea plain, which is home to approximately 85 naturally occurring lakes of varying sizes. The scenic road offers a beautiful landscape, making it another highlight of this tour.
