Alex was very knowledgeable and welcoming - Upon arriving at any destination city, I seek out the local market(s) and a food tour in order to best plan out my itinerary. The highest rated food tour I could find on Tripadvisor was the Berlin Culinary Experience led by owner-operator Alex. Having just returned from the food tour, I would rate Alex's tour in the upper echelon of food tours I've experienced for two main reasons: (a) To my knowledge, there is no central market near the "Mitte" area of the city where are staying to get a vibe of the ingredients and food scene. This makes going on a food tour even more important since I got to ask the questions that were on my mind such as "Why is there no big, easily-accessible permanent food market in Berlin such as you'd find in other major cities?" (b) Alex studied cultural anthropology at university and the members of our tour had many questions about the confusing history of East Berlin/Germany. As they say, history is written by the victors and Alex has a unique perspective having grown up locally in East Berlin/Germany. Ask him about it! Of course, if you don't have an interest in history and politics, this may be of little importance but for our group, it was very informative and welcome. Alex took this cue from our group and interspersed a lot of these topics into our tour which was great. In all, Alex was very hospitable and I would recommend his tour, given that I find Berlin's food scene to be very challenging!

An excellent and highly recommended tour! - This was an excellent tour. We visited many lovely restaurants, we will definitely return to and had some lovely food and drinks. Alex was so knowledgeable and interesting and was a lovely person to spend a few hours with. He brought the vibrant history of the area (Prenzlauer Berg) we visited alive and you could clearly feel his love for the city. Highly recommend this tour!

Great Tour—Highly Recommended - We really enjoyed our food tour and would highly recommend taking a tour with Walk With Us Tours Berlin. Alex was our tour guide and he was absolutely excellent!!! Prenzlauer Berg was a lovely area and the food and drinks were great!!! Alex is very knowledgeable about the food culture but also shared stories about the history of the local area. I would highly recommend taking a tour with Walk With Us Tours Berlin.

Walking and food tour - I so enjoyed this tour; on the surface it was a food walk but Joseph wove in all kinds of cultural and historical details with humour and humanity. He clearly adores this city and he helped me see details I would otherwise never have noticed. Thank you!

Highly Recommend - My husband and I had the pleasure of taking a tour with Alex yesterday. It was the perfect introduction to the vibrant food culture in Berlin and a great way to explore a local neighbourhood in the city. We ate delicious food, drank local beer while chatting about the origins of local dishes and how the food culture is adapting to modern times. It was also interesting hearing about the history of the local area and we felt like locals by the end of the afternoon. We even went back the next day to wander around the area and sample the food again ! Alex is very knowledgeable and professional but at the same time down to earth and friendly. It was such a relaxing way to spend an afternoon and we never felt rushed. We had lots of fun. Alex also gave us a list of recommendations for our time in Berlin which we found extremely helpful. Thank you. This is a great tour and we would highly recommend.

Delicious history off the beaten path - Our food tour with Joseph of Walk With Us Tours of Berlin was a highlight of our trip. We tried many foods we wouldn’t have tried on our own, and our guide told stories that tied each food to the neighborhood’s (Prenzlauer Berg) history. It was great to explore a new neighborhood through food and to hear how the people of this particular location withstood some of the significant historical events in Berlin. Highly recommend!

Not just schnitzel and currywurst... - We've taken many food tours over the years, and Alex at Walk With Us led one of the best. It was fun, informative, and delicious. Highly recommend this tour. We wish we had had more time to try another of their tours on this trip.
