Situated to the south of Durbar Square, Pottery square is a significant segment of Bhaktapur Durbar Square. The locals often refer to this place as ‘Bolachha Tole’, yet it is universally recognized as Pottery square. Its significance lies in the production of traditional household items that are essential in daily life such as glasses, Jhar, lamps used for offerings, piggy banks, vessels, and numerous decorative items. It involves two methods of production - one takes advantage of time-honored manual techniques and the other relies on electric technology for a more comfortable and energy-efficient process. The steps to create pottery are as follows:

1. Source quality soil from a specific location

2. Combine water and soil in correct proportions to form pliable clay

3. Use technology, either manual or electric, to mold the clay into specific designs and shapes

4. Leave the formed clay to dry in the sun for a day

5. Fire the dried clay

6. Paint the pottery with appealing designs

7. Leave the painted pottery to dry for another day

8. The pottery is now ready to be sold
