Setting Sail on a Zodiac Adventure

The sun was just beginning to rise over the Big Island as I found myself boarding a sleek, agile Zodiac RIB boat, ready for a day of exploration at Kealakekua Bay. Known for its pristine coral reefs and vibrant marine life, this bay is a protected marine sanctuary and a historic site, home to the Captain Cook Monument. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours in the ocean, but the promise of exploring hidden sea caves and lava tubes had me buzzing with excitement.

Our guide, David, was a local expert with a deep respect for the ocean. His enthusiasm was infectious as he shared stories about the coastline and the marine life we might encounter.
